Great coffee, good Scottish breakfast. Staff reacted nicely to extra wishes. The cafe itself is furnitured in a cosy, alternative way.

Thank Matthias G

Got up late and wanted some brunch, so wandered from the Royal Mile to this lovely little cafe. The small breakfast was just the ticket. Service a bit slow, but the food and coffee were great.

I had visited Cafe Cockburn before and it was great, but they’ve had a reshuffle and it’s gone downhill…

On a previous jaunt to Edinburgh I enjoyed immensely the huge thick cut bacon sandwich I received at Cockburn’s. The leather sofas and a mug of tea were fantastically comforting. On this premise I went back.

Since my first visit they have arranged somewhat, doing away with the comfort of sofas in favour of high capacity cramped tables and chairs. The counter tucked snuggly in the corner was a reassurance as we ordered more bacon sarnies and a pot of tea.

Perhaps my disappointment is elevated due to fond memories, but there was certainly my less and thinner cut bacon and they seem to have gone in for sliced bread, when they had previously cut to order.

The place isn’t bad and you get what you want. It has just lost that cosy edge and less bacon is obviously a terrible, terrible thing.

Would I recommend? Sure if passing, but if you have five minutes to plan you can find much better in Edinburgh.

Was staying just off the Royal Mile, so wanted somewhere nearby for some supper. Came here because it looked really nice and quaint. Had the Adam Burger which was tasty, and accompied by some delicious homemade potato wedges. Nice little place.
