“Great Guest House”
Reviewed 10 April 2008

I just arrived home from a wonderful trip to England and Scotland. I booked a stay at the Sheridan Guest House based on the comments that I saw here on Trip Advisor - and I couldn't agree more with the positive comments. The entire property was incredibly clean and nicely decorated. My room was warm and cozy. All the rooms are en suite, and the shower had great water pressure.

The location is a bit out from city center, but I purposely chose the location. City center, Princes Street can be a bit busy and noisy at times. There is a bus stop just across the street from the house (#11 line) that will take you into city center for all the sights and shopping. Taxi ride from Waverley is about 6 pounds. If you enjoy walking, which I do, you are close to Leith Walk and lots of restaurants as well as the Royal Yacht Britannia, which I highly recommend.

Rowena was an absolutely wonderful host, and a great cook. The breakfast was delightful.

I will certainly be staying here on my next visit to Edinburgh.

Can't agree enough with the praise in the other reviews. Rowena and Tom run a very classy guesthouse. Friendly, helpful and very, very professional. Ask her for one of her recipes - you won't be disappointed.

We strongly recommend The Sheridan Guesthouse as a place to stay in Edinburgh. We stayed for there for a long weekend and the service we received was superb. The comments from previous reviewers have been spot on, the rooms are very stylish, warm and extremely clean. Our stay was very enjoyable as Rowena was a great host ! The guesthouse is slightly a little out of the city centre however Sheridan is located very close by to the bus stop, unlike London the buses in Edinburgh are very reliable and the buses in the peak time are very frequent and will take you to the city. Rowena's knowledge of Edinburgh is very vast and will be able to give you great local information of the city centre esp the recommendation to Mussell Inn for dinner.

The room prices are very reasonable as it includes a decent size breakfast and great art work dotted around the guesthouse.

Arrived late at night after long journey from Nice, France having had to change planes in Paris and then again in Amsterdam to find this GEM. What an eye- opener of a guest house! I don't think one would need to look further anywhere to find a more comfortable, cleaner, and impeccably maintained guest house. The owners and hosts Rowena and Tom are among the best! they are warm, gracious, welcoming, and concerned about everything.
Every detail is the house is very well thought-out, beautiful, delicate, and balanced. The beds are most comfortable in all respects.
The breakfast is superb-the menu finely attuned- table settings most tasteful, flowers and wonderful plants placed everywhere, and one feels like lingering on there even though the sites of Edinburgh beckon.
Thoroughly relaxing, this is among very very nicest and best- I could not and would not have asked for more. As a Bed and Breakfast it is as near to perfection as one can get.

Me and my aunt stayed at Sheridan for a night on the 1st of September 2007. We found it through Trip Advisor and after looking at their website, we were impressed and contacted Rowena and Tom straight away. We already booked with another hotel firstly but having seen the terrible reviews, we cancelled and booked on Sheridan instead. As we arrived on Edinburgh early in the morning, we decided to leave our luggage on the reception but we didn't expected to be let in the room that early by the lovely hosts. After a long journey, we were so relieved and comforted to be able to rest before we explore Edinburgh. The room itself was very clean with a view of the Edinburgh castle. It is very cosy and nicely decorated. Crisp clean sheets made our sleep very pleasant. During breakfast the next day we we're served by sumptuous food cooked by Rowena. Tom served us hot food like we were being waited in a 5 star hotel! The breakfast was a delight. We couldn't really ask for more... The table was set very nicely and the ambiance was really amazing. We would have wanted to stay longer if not for our work commitments back in London. Our stay at Sheridan was one great experience on Edinburgh we will never forget. We definitely recommend them to anyone.

My husband and I stayed at the Sheridan Guest House for seven nights this past spring. It was my second visit to Scotland and my husband's third; our previous accommodations paled in comparison. We absolutely loved it at the Sheridan!

First of all, each and every inquiry we made via email was promptly answered so we already had a very good feeling about booking our reservation.

We arrived in the late afternoon and we were greeted with sincere enthusiasm by the host & owner, Rowena (her husband was on a business trip so we never had the pleasure of meeting him). It was so nice to be welcomed into "her home" especially since we had spent the last 18 hours traveling (from Orange County to LAX to NY to London to Edinburgh).

Right away we were impressed with the cleanliness of the entire place (the entryway, dining area, reception, hallway). Our room was spotless and tidy. Rowena uses clean, crisp, white linens so you know that everything (including the comforter) has been laundered before your arrival.

Having a mild case of OCD, I get scared just thinking of using any bathroom that's not in my own house. But have no fear! The bathroom in our room at the Sheridan was immaculate; the sink, toilet and shower stall were extremely clean.

We loved our room, which could be described as modern and inviting. From a distance we could see Edinburgh Castle from our window.

The location of the Sheridan is quite convenient - you're only about 10-15 minutes by bus (#11) from the city center. And the bus stop is right across the street from the guest house. There's also take out (or take away as they say in the U.K.) places (Cantonese and Indian) very close by. And if you're craving a scone, just cross the street and visit the Mulberry Bush bakery (the owner is super friendly).

Made-to-order breakfasts at the Sheridan were consistently yummy. I had smoked salmon & scrambled eggs every day and my husband had the traditional Scottish breakfast. There was always a variety of cereals & juices, and fresh fruit. Most of the time we would linger in the dining room after breakfast, talking to Rowena because she's such an interesting person.

We thoroughly enjoyed our accommodations because it felt like we were staying at a good friend's house.
