“Great location & close to the centre”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

We went up for the Edinburgh Marathon weekend. The B&B was lovely; clean, tidy and close to all facilities. There's a couple of bus stops within metres for the door and its only a 30 min pleasant walk in to the city. The owners, Michelle & Martin were friendly, welcoming and helpful. It was a perfect spot and we'll definitely stay at Garfield House again & recommend it to others.

Room Tip: We had Room 2 which is at the back of the house so it was really quiet.

Travelled to Edinburgh to do the marathon, 7 of us stayed in the Garfield. The owners couldn't have been more helpful, From greeting us at the door, to where to eat etc
The rooms were very clean and comfortable, shower nice and hot.
Superb breakfast (especially the haggis), they also arranged early breakfast on the day of the marathon.
Michelle and Martin really went out of their way to make us feel welcome.
Highly recommend the Garfield

A group of us who were running in the Edinburgh Marathon stayed for four nights during May. I found the rooms to be clean & nicely appointed, comfortable with TV's etc. The en-suite bathrooms although small were nicely fitted out with decent showers & were again all very clean & fresh looking. The owners couldn't have been nicer & were able to offer lots of advise with regards to travel & getting about, advising on buses, restaurants & booking taxis for us.
Breakfast was great with lots of choices available including full cooked, salmon & eggs, porridge & haggis!

I would have no hesitation in staying here again & would defiantly stay here again.

Hi,

heres our review of the Garfield Guest House, we went to edinburgh for the Marathon and arrived saturday and booked a family room for me my mrs and our friend.

The family room is on the first floor and faces the main road. the room is nice and big and could accommodate 5 people, and was clean and tidy, but as the room faces the main road it is quite noisy as the windows are not the best double glazing.

The shower room although small is fully functional and the shower nice and hot.

Only storage space is a hanger just inside the rooms door

TV if you wish to watch it in bed is a no no as its hidden in an alcove, oh and its wiring doesn't seem too good, but I'm sure they know that.

Breakfast is great with lots on offer.

Location for the town centre is good with lots of buses and about 1.5 miles from the centre of town.

We didn't get greeted on arrival as you have to pick up a phone, and speak to someone who then unlocks the door, seems strange, never had that in a B&B before....and be ready to read lots as there are notes left for you to order breakfast etc..

The staff we did meet at breakfast and check out was very friendly

Overall a fairly good B&B that could in our opinion do with a couple of little changes to make it more welcoming.

Room Tip: first floor family room noisy due to poor windows

Great location for our visit to Heriot Rugby Club. Very welcoming and helpful. Room was spotless and quiet, breakfast fantastic. Ample free parking directly across the road with good bus links to all parts of the city. Highly recommended.

My son and I stayed here for one night as he had an interview at Edinburgh college and we needed to be close by. The location of the guest house is really good, and there is loads of parking over the road. Buses are also plentiful and stop right outside the house. We rang ahead of our arrival as we were running late, and our key was left out for us for when we arrived. Our room was clean and the guest house offers facilities such as irons etc which was really helpful. Breakfast was lovely and there was lots of variety. The night before my son was peckish and read in the guest notes that there were refreshments and an honesty box in the dining room, however he couldn't find them and didn't think it counted as an 'emergency' to ring the owners after 10pm to ask! The staff members we met were all friendly and welcoming.
All in all we were happy to stay here, and should my son be successful in his college interview we could be back for visits as a family!

Had a great two night stay here at the beginning of May. The staff are all welcoming and knowledgable on the local area. They served us an excellent cooked breakfast. The bedroom (room6) on the top floor is immaculately clean, with lovely comfy beds. Bathroom also spotless. All seems freshly painted, nice and warm & clean. Cannot fault the place, will definitely be back!
