“Fantsatic place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 September 2015

We stayed 1 night in the Highfield guest house. we do not know this part of Edinburgh. Gordon welcomed us warmly and explained where to get bus into city and back. Greatly appreciated.
Our room was on the ground floor and was lovely. Spotlessly clean , with comfortable beds and cosy bed linen. From the warm welcome to the friendly goodbye the Highfield is better than the soulless large chain hotels where you are only a room number. a fantastic place to stay with great made to order fresh breakfast.
Would come back and stay anytime I was overnight in Edinburgh

Room Tip: room 5 was on the ground floor

My boyfriend and I spent 3 nights here during the Fringe Festival in August. The owners were so friendly and helpful with everything including advice on travelling around the city.

Delicious and very generous breakfast made to order, very, very comfortable and cosy beds and great shower.

Such a friendly and lovely stay, not too far from the center of the city. Buses were available every few minutes.

Would love to return! Thank you!

My wife and I had a two night stay in the b&b and it has been a great experience
the house is a 30minute walk from the city center, but there are several buses service in the nieghborhood.
The house is very nice and also very clean: there is the breakfast room at ground floor with some rooms and then other 3 rooms upstairs
the host, Kate, is wonderful: she is very kind and she provides a lot of information. We received a map with all the details about the city and the buses
The room was a little bit small but clean and comfortable. The bathroom very clean with a very good shower. The sleep was very good: heavy curtains avoided the light to get in and the bed was wonderful
very good breakfast with several choice also for a continental breakfast
Porridge to be tested: the best in Scotland
perfect wi-fi with powerful signal and good connection
The prices are a bit higher than in the rest of scotland but the service deserve it
Good connection to the station and then to the airport: You can get there in 1h and 25minutes
VERY GOOD!!!

A real class act!!, if you have a visit to Edinburgh in mind, stay here!!. Many thanks for a great stay to Maggie & Kate. (A special thanks to Kate for reminding us that breakfast was about to finish and not start, as we mistakenly thought)☺

I booked this guest house for a week whilst visiting Edinburgh. It is immaculate in décor, cleanliness and warmth of hospitality from Maggie and Kate. Helpful with directions, modes of travel, places to see etc. Bus services that quickly whisk visitors into the City pass the door. The breakfast is delightfully served from a wide range of choices and sets one up for the day. Being just outside the City Highfield provides first class comfort at very reasonable cost. I didn't want to leave and can't wait to return.

Highfield Guest house is a wonderful place to stay when visiting Edinburgh. Beautifully restored home. Katie made us feel very welcome. She was so helpful and considerate. She ordered taxis for us and made dinner reservations for us. We had to leave very early on our last morning. She prepared bag lunches for us to take when we left because it was too early for breakfast. Dining room is gorgeous and the food was delicious. This is definitely THE place to stay in Edinburgh.

We stayed in the Hotel Ashburn on Saturday 7th Aug for 1 night and I can honestly say it is the best B & B I have ever stayed in. I booked 2 rooms, I double & 1 twin and both were of excellent standard. The rooms were spotlessly clean and very well presented, even down to the finer detail of having scissors with the tea/coffee to enable you to cut the tops off. Kate & Gordon were wonderful hosts with nothing too much trouble. They gave us so much information of what was going on in Edinburgh and advised us of the parade down the Royal Mile, which we would have missed otherwise. They gave full bus details of where to get on/off, which buses to catch and where they went - we had our own Tourist Information guide at the B & B - it was great! The Ashburn is situated a 5 minute walk from the main road where you can catch any bus going into the city, it takes approx 15 mins on the bus but longer if the traffic is busy; it is an ideal location. The choice for breakfast was substantial and the breakfast itself was delicious and very hearty! The breakfast room is lovely, as is the whole house & finished to a very high standard. I stayed with my Husband and Parents and we all agreed it was a fantastic experience to stay at the Hotel Ashburn and we would be returning. I would recommend Hotel Ashburn to anyone & I am already planning my return visit.
