“A great place to stay”
Reviewed 17 October 2013

Stayed for two nights here 13/10/13
Arrived around 930ish after just a short walk from the train station.
There are stairs to get up to the reception/ accommodation and found these no problem to get up even with a torn calf muscle ouch! (from running in a 10k trail race earlier in the day)
On arriving was greeted by the owner Harry-superbly friendly and welcoming.
Our double room we had was clean as was the en-suite- the welcome tray was well stocked with teas/coffee ect . with fresh clean towels on the rail
the bed was firm but comfortable and the room the heating on making the room warm and pleasant (my partner over packed the night wear, thinking Scottish Guest Houses would be cold at night, though she's used to camping in a tent lol )
the breakfasts were great plenty of tea & coffee on offer with cereals and fresh fruits and a very nice full Scottish breakfast.
We enjoyed our short trip and this was a truly great place to stay.
The only down side to it was that we had to go home :-(
Elder York is some where we will stay again when in Edinburgh

Room Tip: stayed in room 4 Its on the same level as the breakfast room

The place is located in 5 minutes walking distance from the train station.
There is no elevator in the hotel, you need to walk up 2 floors until you arrive at the reception and the top floor there are most of the rooms.
We got a double room, they clean you the room everyday and they refill you coffee and tea making facilities every day as well. The only inconvenience that the toilet/bathroom is very small.
The best thing is the breakfast, you have the area with cereals, fruits, juices and yogurt and after you can choose between having a full scottish breakfast, vegetarian or scramble eggs. you will get really full with all the food that you can find there.
The service is really good and the people that they are working are very helpful and nice. I really enjoy the stay in this place and I would recomend it to the people.

We stayed at Elder York Guest House for our first two nights in Scotland and I'm so glad we did! It's an easy walk from the Waverly bridge bus stop (a 25 minute ride on the Airlink 100 from the airport) which makes it a fantastic location for walking to all the major sites. Henry was amazingly friendly and the room was comfortable and clean and breakfast was incredible! Do be warned it is a walk up stairs, but they do mention this in the description so it wasn't a big surprise, but really, for the location and price, it's a great place to stay. And they're very very helpful about places to go, eat, and things to do. Great visit!!

Room Tip: Some rooms have bathrooms and others don't. We chose one with a bathroom which made things a li...

Good - 1) cheerful helpful staff 2) location - very near Waverly train depot/right next to Edinburgh bus station 3) easy walking access to city centre /Miracle Mile 4) excellent brkfst&efficient service
Bad - 1) 3 flights of steep stairs to the office - we were on 4th floor - 62 steps up -no lift 2) almost nonexistent wifi 3) room is small 4) our toilet never did flush properly5) light over sink didn't work
6) got cool at night - no heat 7) TV was difficult to operate

Room Tip: Noise from buses really wasn't a factor until 6-7 am. Could ask for an inside room if street noi...

Nice clean rooms, good full Scottish breakfast. Free wifi. The front door bell can be heard into the rooms which is a little annoying when someone rings it in the middle of the night. Parking round the corner for £15/24h.

Just spent 3 nights in Elder York Guesthouse, could not recommend it highly enough 5 mins. Walk from Waverly Station (when you know the shortcut). The operators were extremely helpful when we had early starts and provided us a continental breakfast, advice for laundromat, tours and printing out bording passes, big thanks.
