Loved this hotel! The booking process was easy and they had amazing rates. The hotel seems brand new, incredibly clean and a modern, edgy feel! Beds were super comfy. Plenty of storage space for luggage. Perfect for younger couples or single people. We would definitely stay here any time we visit Edinburgh!

We stayed here for 4 nights. They first gave us room 309. The internet was poor to nonexistent. We changed for room 205 where the internet worked perfectly but is a bit tiny. The room was extra small but clean. No view. The shower was also very small but clean too. It did have a towel heater. The commode sit was built for a large size and uncomfortable for the rest of us. The rooms can be hard to find and it is like being on a train. There was a smell of smoke in the hallway from the bar on the first floor. The young staff was helpful and friendly. There is no phones in the room. The TV worked fine. The bed was comfortable. The location is good and near plenty of restaurants. I can recommend the Sea Food and Steak Restaurant across the street as well as the Maison Blue just up the hill on the left.

Room Tip: If you want internet don't take Room 309

Hi James,

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us here in Edinburgh :-)

I’m sorry to hear of the issues in your first room, but I’m pleased to hear the staff were able to assist you and resolve the problem efficiently.

It sounds like you made the most of our great location during your stay; The Mussel & Steak Bar is one of my favourite restaurants in Edinburgh – you made a great choice!

I hope we can welcome you back next time you are in Scotland.

Best Wishes,

We stayed here on a Friday night and for a last minute booking, it was perfect. The hotel is in a great location with lots of restaurants, cafes and pubs within a 10 second walk. We had a standard room (not a cosy) and it was a great size. Lots of little bits of detail e.g. teapot, filter coffee sachets instead of instant, flavoured teas and Tunnocks Teacakes and iPod docking station in the wall!
The staff were great and very accommodating, my friend had emailed the hotel to surprise me with a card and chocolates and they were more than happy to do so. They were also happy to recommend somewhere to eat and they even rang up to reserve a table for us.
The only downside is that there is no carpark but with a NCP (£24 for 24hrs) it was fine.
Defintely a great, clean hotel which I will be recommending to all who come to Edinburgh :)

Room Tip: We had 105 which was next to the lift and looked out onto the main strip, great view but not great i...

Hi lil_jen22,

Thank you so much for your fantastic review of your recent stay with us here in Edinburgh – we really are spoiled here in the Grassmarket with our location.

We have recently set up a new deal with the NCP car park of £10 for 24 hours so be sure to make the most of the discount next time you visit.

Don't stay away too long :-),

We stayed in March 2014 and it was a nice enough stay. Rooms were big and bathrooms really nice. Our room was right above the pub so it was noisy but it didn't bother us to much. If you want to relax probably not the best place to stay. Did find the girl on reception rude however the next day the girl that was on was really nice. I do think it was slightly over priced for what you got. Probably wouldn't stay again. Location was really good!

I stayed here overnight on a business trip. Arrived late. Night porter didn't know where my room was located so spent the first 15 minutes riding up and down in the lift before we worked out that the side of the building where my room was located couldn't be accessed by the lift. Great. Had to then lug my suitcase up the stairs to the third floor. Room was tiny. No hot water that night. None in the morning either. Left early after a cold shower. The quips and quirky sentences written on the walls and in the promotional material just become a bit irritating when you realise you've paid 80 quid for a night's accommodation which was less than the standard of a decent youth hostel!

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else!

This is the 1st time I've stayed at the Grassmarket hotel and it won't be the last.
Instantly made to feel welcome by the cheery receptionist. Once we got to the room it was really funky and had all the creature comforts we required.
The only minor thing I found was the shower temperature/ pressure kept fluctuating but I like to dance so it wasn't a big deal.
Overall I was very happy with this place and would highly recommend it to others.
