Unexpected great experience for a meat eater to stay at a vegetarian guesthouse. Situated 15 minutes walk from the centre of Edinburgh. Room 6 was at the top of the house but worth the climb. Ensuite it was comfortable, cosy, bright and tastefully decorated. The breakfast has to be seen to be believed- fantastic. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Great late pub 2 minutes walk around the corner on Leith Walk and best Italian Restaurant I've been in for a long time also nearby- La Favorita. Will definitely be back.

We had a spacious en-suite room with pre-raphaelite prints on the wall and a lovely comfortable brass bed. This is a B&B with character. Cathy is a great host, very helpful and friendly. She had no problem at all catering for vegans. To start with on offer there are a variety of cereals, fruit, soya and milk yoghurts. Then Cathy will cook you a huge cooked breakfast which can include polenta or tattie-cake with beans, tomatoes, fried potatoes, mushrooms and more. This is served with toast and there is a good selection of Jams.

It's uphill into town but you may need to walk off that breakfast! On the other hand there are plenty of buses. If there isn't a number 11 due (bus stop right outside the door), you can easily go round the corner to Leith Walk where buses are constantly passing. There are lots of shops on Leith Walk including a handy co-op supermarket.

It was a very cold weekend for May (6C) but our room was so warm we turned the radiator down. So I don't think you'll be cold even in mid-winter.

We travelled to E'burgh as part of our Scotland trip over Easter and stayed here after cancelling twice before post booking due to various reasons - weather, work sched changes etc. Cathy was very understanding all the previous times and this time when we could finally make it we chose to stay here even though we are not vegetarians.... let me just say that the b'fast spread did not make me miss the bacon and sausage :). Infact the food mentioned on the website was one of the reasons why we chose it in the first instance as it was different from the run of the mill affair provided at most other places. Cathy was also very helpful and almost acted as our tour guide , helping us with places and accessibility info. We will choose this again any day.
Thanks Cathy for a wonderful time spent.

We were in Edinburgh last week end for rugby and to visit this beautiful town. Claymore guesthouse wasn't in the centre of the city, but bus n°11 is just in front of the house (Dryden stop). We were 4 people, 2 adults and 2 children. Beds were comfortable, and the vegetarian breakfast excellent and copious. It wasn't an en-suite room but for 3 nights it was ok. We appreciate warmly welcome, Cathy was very very nice : it was my daughter's birthday and she received a candle and a card, we were all surprised. Thank you for this stay and to be so friendly.

I stayed at Claymore at the end of October, and it was a fabulous experience. Cathy is just simply wonderful - and made me feel very welcome and valued. Claymore is a short walk from all the city centre activities, and the guest house offers great accommodation with the most brilliant vegan breakfast. I went for the full cooked which came with polenta topped with mushrooms along with the beans, vine tomatoes, toast, onion etc etc - which was a great and thoughtful option - although if you were veggie you would also have the pleasure of eggs and cheese too! I was particularly impressed with the vegan cream cheese and yogurts that were on offer too - such a wonderful choice, I was spoiled. Amazingly all of this is on offer, along with Cathy's friendly and personable attention, at excellent value for money - so I will definitely be staying here again when life takes me north!

Spent a weekend celebrating our Silver wedding anniversary. Great communication with Cathy after finding The Claymore Guest House via google both with email and texting us before our journey. The bedroom was very comfortable with good en - suite facilities. The breakfast was a vegetarian dream offering fresh fruit, cereals and pastries and beautiful cooked breakfasts including halloumi, polenta, vine tomatoes, eggs etc. The service was excellent and Cathy offered helpful advice regarding festival venues etc. We would not hesitate to recommend this guest house and look forward to returning with the whole family in the near future. Well Done to all at The Claymore!

Room Tip: Cathy is very approachable and I am sure she will attempt to accomadate any preference
