“part Harry Potter, part Fawlty Towers!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 December 2011

A beautiful building full of old-world university charm. The room was huge, modern and clean with an excellent large bathroom. Staff were very helpful with directions for buses to the city, and even recommended a local pub for dinner. Check-in is in a different building, and the both can be difficult to find. Parking is abundant and wifi is free. The interior of the building is beautiful, very well maintained and Harry Potter-esque. Our room was at the front of the building on the second floor. Unfortunately the staircase is very steep - no lift, and the corridors are a labrynth! A little fawlty towers, but its all part of the experience. I will return to Edinburgh, and to Salisbury Green.

Finding Hotel on dark evening difficult, bad signage. No lights on at front of building and door locked with note left to report to Masson Hotel when we did eventually find it, then another 10 minutes to locate Masson Hotel. Our first thoughts on arrival was to find other hotel as we would be the only guests as it looked desserted ,not very welcoming, feel this hotel needs a manned reception area and windows at least on lower floor lit, at this time of year could even have been small Christmas tree in each of the front ones. We were told that breakfast was to be served in Masson Hotel and had a slippery walk round as snow and frost that weekend, why therefore can a covered walkway not be put up from nearest points of each building, not even an umbrella if a shower came on. We were cold and tired from shopping all day on our arrival but on eventually entering the Salisbury Hotel found it warm and were pleasantly surprised at our lovely room only thing missing was suitcase stand. Still think outer appearance very important and in the morning light noticed lower front windows blinds closed and pulled half way up and chairs stacked at windows, dont want to see this. All seems very negative but giving our honest opinion. On a positive side we would stay here again, receptionists very helpful, room first class, breakfast very good. went across road in evening to Salisbury arms for a meal, good pub food and lovely atmostphere. Beautiful old building with modern rooms! Loved the fire place and big bathroom. Even though it is not in the city center, the walk is very nice, and the bus station is virtually in front of the gate.
Room was clean and quiet with coffee/tea facility. Breakfast buffet was very good (plenty of fresh fruit!) and stuff was friendly. Very important thing- free wi-fi!! The hotel is most suitable if you have a student in Pollock Halls- it's on the common grounds, and it makes you feel a part of student community, which I particularly liked!! :)))

Room Tip: Loved my room 34!!

My wife and I stayed here when we visited Scotland back in June. The rooms were clean, and the food and service was excellent. What really sold my wife and I on Salisbury Green was the management. My wife had left some jewelry in our room and, due to flight times, we were unable to return and get it. We contacted them from the airport, and they found the jewelry and over the following two weeks worked to get it the jewelry back to us in the USA. Although located a fair distance from the center of Edinburgh, it is a pleasant walk or quick bus ride to the Royal Mile. Based on our experience, we will definitely stay there again when we return to Scotland!

Fabulous location and forces you to stroll down south clerk street on way to more popular tourist area. Plenty of good shops and cafes on route and ideal for a walk up Arthur's Seat which gives a wonderful view of the city. We booked the double room which wasn't huge but adequate for us. The breakfast was superb with freshly cooked to order; stornoway black pudding, ayrshire bacon and a variety of other options. I stay in hotels frequently through work and have become used to the hot buffet however the quality of the hot food on offer here qas excellent. The staff were excellent especially the domestic staff and one lady who showed us the guest pantry was especially helpful. I would not hesitate to stay hete again. Opps nearly forgot the free parking which is a premium in edinburgh. Fantastic!!

Hotel is in a good situation, in the university complex. Good bus service into the city. Bedroom was very small but with a good modern bathroom. Two problems, (a jammed plug in the wash basin and a faulty light) were dealt with fast and efficiently. Breakfast was excellent, cooked to order with plenty of fresh fruit, juices, pastries and joghurts. It lacked atmosphere as it was more a series of rooms with en suite bathrooms than a hotel. No reception area (that was in the university building).
