“Great Spot”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 September 2009

This a great boutique hotel in the perfect spot right on George Street. The rooms are really large and the staff are helpful and friendly. It was a bit expensive when I stayed but it was during the festival when everything rockets in price. Highly recomended.

It was clear five minutes after arriving in our room at around 9 on Friday evening that the banging baseline of the music from the club below was going to make sleep impossible. It was even difficult to hear the television. I called reception and asked for earplugs which they didn't have and I was advised that the music would stop between 1 and 2. My boyfriend asked a manager to come up to our room and tell us how we were going to get any sleep that night. The manager on duty came up and it was clear that he was aware that there is a problem with noise in this hotel and that it is a complaint they get "from time to time". He told us that the noise would stop around 12.30 and promised to move us the following day. The music went on in fact until 4 a.m. It was an absolutely dreadful night. I eventually managed two hours sleep between 5 and 7. The following day we were moved to a room on a higher floor. I went to bed at 10, having had to miss two of the shows we had booked because I was exhausted. I woke up at 2, and would normally have been able to get back to sleep, were it not for the fact that the baseline was banging away in our new room. I remained awake until 4 when it stopped. We moved to a different room for the 3rd night but changed at 2 a.m. as a problem with noise from air conditioning made sleep impossible - and by now I had some earplugs. The 4th room we were given of a 3 night stay was perfect and this, must account for the experience of those who have made comments about the surprising tranquility of the rooms. It is clear that there are rooms in Tigerlily which are extremely noisy. This is a nightclub which plays house music and is open till 4 a.m. with some rooms above it, and if you are unlucky enough to to be allocated one of these rooms at Tigerlily and you want to go to bed before 4, this will ruin your Edinburgh experience. We were not charged for the first night's stay, but we were falsely informed by staff on two occasions on the first night that the music would stop much earlier than it did. I recommend extreme caution when booking or checking in, and try to ensure that you are as far as possible away from the bar and club.

Number one hotel in Edinburgh!
So many fond memories, GHD's in room such a bonus! IPOD also a nice touch.
Wall mounted 40 inch t.v. massive comfy bed.
Wouldnt stay anywhere else. Looking forward to another trip to Tigerlily early next year.
Edinburgh has it all!

My husband and I stayed here for one night during the festival. Overall we had a wonderful experience.

Pro's: spacious room with very comfortable bed, giant shower with great water pressure, FABULOUS desert (we ordered the mixed desert platter to our room and the cheese cake was to die for), friendly staff, funky decor, very central location, and for those of us ladies with crazy/frizzy hair - they had a flat iron!

Con's: received a bill for nearly 20GBP worth of minibar items that we didn't use upon our return home (the hotel has apologized and says they will refund the amount); somewhat complicated lighting system in the rooms; not a great view (looking out into an office) from our luxury double room.

It's a great place for a weekend getaway and was good value for the price, so I would definitely recommend it despite the few quirks.

I arranged a golf trip to Dublin and Scotland via Ron Smartt at Traveling through the Fairways @ http://www.ttfgolf.com/ who arranged from me and my 2 sons ages 23+21 to stay at the Tigerlily ... A great boutique hotel with excellent service and very comfortable rooms.

This is a very funky, hip and happening hotel. Rooms are great and spacious, location couldn't be better and frankly, Edinburgh as a whole was the biggest surprise. What a great city ... so much to do, such nice people, great food (go to Iglu). We happened to catch the Fringe Festival which was a bonus treat.

Went for 1 nights stay with my husband without children. Fantastic! Lovely clean, comfy room! Everything you could need is in the room. Flatscreen TV, preloaded ipod, hairdryer, straighteners, water, great tea/coffee selection - too much to mention but you get the ideal!
