We stayed at the Ayden during the Edinburgh festival this year and it was a great place to stay. It is quite a way out from all the festival venues, around the Royal Mile, but there is a bus that stops outside, if you you don't want to walk. The guest house has contemporary rooms and is clean and spacious. The owners, Anita and David were very friendly and relaxed and very helpful. Breakfast was delicious and unhurried and all in all, it was a lovely place to stay.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the house have less traffic noise ... you can't avoid the seagulls, though!

I recently stayed at The Ayden Guest House for 3 nights.

The guesthouse is perfectly situated for walking into central Edinburgh or just hopping on a bus at the stop right outside the front door. The bus can also take you 10mins down the road to the Royal Yacht Britannia and retail area.

Each night you fill out a card with your breakfast order, from a selection of continental or try a Scottish traditional breakfast. If you are vegetarian, you must try the veggie haggis, delicious!! When we had a little hangover, after a wedding reception the night before, our host David had IronBru ready for us the next morning, it's a Scottish mineral which is a great hangover cure.

The decor throughout was tasteful and beautiful, crisp white sheets on the bed, soft fresh towels in the bathroom.

Anita & David are excellent hosts, offering advice on what to see/do while you're in Edinburgh, and more importantly the best local places to eat. Next time i'm in Edinburgh i'll be booking here and i'll be telling all my friends about it too.

We needed a guest house for a family get together in Edinburgh and chose The Ayden on recommendation from other friends and relatives. What a find!!!!!. Good location with adjacent bus stops, parking in road and good taxi service Clean ,comfortable, high quality furnishings .Luxurious bed linen . Spotless shower/toilet facilities.Superb breakfast. Hosted by Anita and David who were both very welcoming and hospitable. Thanks to them we look forward to future visits to Edinburgh

Room Tip: My room at rear was superbly quiet --if that is a must.

I never usually write reviews but felt this place deserved one. We stayed 2 nights in a comfortable clean, spacious room with a modern bathroom. Good attention to detail, with room cleaned when we were out and Restocked toiletries and biscuits and tea. Breakfast was delicious, especially the veggy haggis, fresh coffee and poached eggs- set in a beautiful Victorian living room.
David and Anita were really welcoming and helped us out with restaurant choices and planning our days. They even gave us a new duvet when we found we were a bit hot!
Will definitely return here one day.

We stayed for 5 nights at the Ayden at the end of October 2011. Its a 15-20 minute walk from the city centre. We are a gay couple and were made very welcome by David and Anita.who were perfect hosts.
The room we had was large, spotlessly clean and pleasantly decorated. It had tea, coffee making facilities with very nice biscuits. We are vegetarian and had a good choice of breakfasts. We tried vegetarian haggis, which was very nice. There was also a choice of eggs, fried, scrambled or poached.
Edinburgh is a very picturesque city. Plenty to see and do. We walked up Arthurs Seat, which has fantastic views of the city when you reach the top. We also went on a day trip to Loch Ness. Anita provided us with a packed breakfast as we had an early start. The trip to Loch Ness and Glencoe had great views and was very beautiful but the drive back was very tiring.
We had a fantastic time at the Ayden and would highly recommend this guest house to visitors to Edinburgh.
