We stay in Aaran Lodge for 3 nights it's a beautiful B&B, the hospitality was magnificent and the service was great...and Theresa has been an amazing land-lady.
We'd like to come back to Edimburgh because it's a beautiful city, and of course we'd like to come back to Aaran Lodge because we had a great experience there.
Greatings from the italian friends: Sara,Andrea,Federica,Mirko,Fabio,Andrea.

After looking for a hotel in the centre of town i stumbled across this gem! Although situated a little outside the city the convenient transport links made Aaran Lodge an ideal location.

The property should be 5* and the prices do not reflect the high standards that the owner has set. We were made to feel very welcome and nothing was a problem to the owner who gave us great advice about places to go.

I will definitely be back to Aaran Lodge on my next visit to Edinburgh.

What a find!

We visit Edinburgh most years for the Fringe festival. We found this guest house through the A1 tourism website and e-mailed the property directly to make the booking, which was handled very quickly and efficiently.

Although parking at the property itself was not quite as easy as the website suggested, there was plenty of parking available at the hotel next door and so was not a problem. In fact we left the car there for most of our stay as we made use of the excellent bus service into the city centre.

Theresa, the host, was very welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. The room was very comfortable, with a high standard of cleanliness and furnishings.

We would highly recommend the guest house and look forward to future visits.

We stayed at the Aaran Lodge House for 3 nights with our 3 year-old and the experience was very good.
Everything is tastefully decorated. We had a room with a double bed and a single bed for the boy. The breakfast was very good. Theresa looked after every detail. She was very attentive and helpful.
The location is perfect because it is peaceful and you can take the bus just next door from the house. It is very convinient. We took the 44 every morning with the kid and returned late in the afternoon.
As the boy wouldn't walk very much, we found a perfect place to have dinner in the hotel just next door.
When we visit again Edinburgh, I'm sure we will return to this house.

Aaron Lodge was a lovely place to stay while in Edinburgh. A bit off the beaten path from city center, but loved being able to get away from the hubbub of the city. The guesthouse is located out by Portobello and Mussleburgh area. About a 25-30 minute Airlink buscommute from the airport to city center, then another 15-20 minute Lothian bus commute to the guesthouse. The directions for buses are spot on. Buy a round trip bus fare via the Airlink Bus just outside the airport. This round trip will take you to city center and then as you need to return to the airport you already have you Airlink bus pass for your return.Tell bus driver you want dropped off at Marks and Spencers, city center on Princes Street to catch the 44 bus to the guesthouse. Then ask the (Lothian busses) 44 bus driver to drop you off at Best Western, Kings Hotel. The guesthouse is directly accross the street from the bus stop. You will need exact change to ride the 44 bus. The bus ticket agent at the airport can provide change. Once you are ready to go back to city center ,hop on the 44 bus back to city center, again exact change to buy a one way ride or you can buy a day pass directly from the bus driver, exact change. The bus driver does take paper money/notes if you don't have coin. You can take the bus anywhere. Sounds difficult, but my review is detailed. The city is working on building a tram system.I booked via edlets.com. So you could visit that website and and see pictures and get tons of information about the guesthouse. We didn't take any pics of the place, so I have none to share. Therese was a great hostess. Very on top of her business and set in her ways. Breakfast was very good. Got to try the typical Scottish breakfast, but the Continnetal breakfast is great and better for those calorie counters. Well decorated. Clean and efficient. Great staff. They do take credit cards but expect a surcharge fee. So pay cash if you can. They make your bed every morning as you are out and about sight seeing. Very modern bathrooms. The sheets smell good. The bath towels are nice. Wine glasses and bottle opener in the room. Tea and coffee can be made in the room.Hairdryer in room. One negative was the noise. The guesthouset is on a busy main street. The room we had, the window opened to street noise. The weather was a bit warm so we needed to leave the window open, no airconditioning. So ask for a room away from the street. The owners do have a cute little dog named Ollie. Ask Therese for any info or anything you may need and she is full of great information. Edinburgh was a great vacation spot. Plenty to do. Aaron Lodge was a nice wonderful place to stay.

When we arrived we were asked if we had no problems with another room as booked (twin ensuite instead of double ensuite). When we saw the large room with 1 twin and 1 single bed and also a huge couch we did not bother at all! Is was in fact one of the largest rooms we had seen since a long time, especially when you always stay in ordinary hotels/motels. It was very luxurious with a lot of cushions and decorations and also the bathroom was very well equipped. Also Mrs. Todd did her utmost to make you feel as comfortable as possible. Other positive details: good breakfast (and served on time if you told the evening before how late and if you want continental or Scottish), enough parking space and a busstop within 100 metres (day & night bus!).
We also slept in the four poster bedroom, which was even more luxurious than the other rooms. It lies, however, on the street side, so if you sleep very light and hear every noise, you cannot leave your window open because of the street traffic early in the morning.
We made a reservation at 'A room in Leith' in Leith situated at Dock Place. Excellent food, very friendly and a beautiful terrace!

  • Liked — Hospitality, luxury
  • Disliked — Electronic showers: did not work properly in the four poster room

It's a great place to stay - the facilities are as good you would get in a hotel but with the friendly atmosphere of a home.

The rooms are large and beautifully decorated with great care. The breakfast - lots of choice and served on time.

It is well situated - there is bus stop at the front door that takes you straight into the centre. It's close to Portobello beach and also the now trendy Leith. It's easy to find, just of the A1 as you come into Edinburgh from the south.

We started going to Edinburgh for the festival several years ago and wouldn't consider staying anywhere else now. Theressa and Des make a special effort for all their guests and very friendly and approachable.
