I stayed for a few nights in the single room at Cluaran. The single room has a separate, private bathroom on the same floor. I believe other rooms are all ensuites. The building dates back to 1860, so the floor is a bit creaky, but it is very cosy and welcoming, creatively and nicely decorated.
The hosts are lovely. The breakfast every morning is delicious, with only the best (and often organic) ingredients being used. Organic eggs and milk, top quality bacon and sausage, and a chance to sample some good black pudding. I was leaving very early on the last day and didn't expect any breakfast, but Noreen offered to get up early to prepare breakfast for me, which was beyond the call of duty.
I was initially a bit concerned about the convenience of the location, wondering how it would take to reach the sights. But it was only a £6 cab ride from and to the station when I had luggage. The rest of the time, it is possible to walk to the city centre/Royal Mile in about 20 minutes. Bus stop is nearby, which is convenient too. I had no trouble getting about at all.
