Just returned form a 8 day self guided tour of Scotland. After arriving in Edinburgh and checking in our rooms at the Pillars House the first time we talked to Edna it was like talking to family she was quick to help out and give directions around the city. Coming down for breakfast every morning was enjoyable she sang and whistled around the kitchen. We spend 3 nights there then took off around the country see all the different sites that Scotland had to offer. After traveling up to Loch Ness and Isle of skye we returned back to Edinburgh and spent another 2 nights there.
I would highly recommend this B&B to anyone traveling to Scotland the rooms are very comfortable and clean and I would stay the again Thank you Edna and staff Kayce says hi!

Located in Leith near the SMWS Vaults. A little outside the old centre (25min walk) but there are busses or taxi's and the friendly host Edna is always willing to assist you. Delicious breakfast is being made while you sit in the kitchen. Very cousy. Large car park in the back.
Definitely a great B&B

From the moment you arrive at Pillars House till the moment you leave, you can be sure of hospitality of the highest order. Our visit coincided with the Edinburgh International Festival, a time when many hotels charge inflated prices. Not so, Pillars House. For the usual summer room rate, we had a perfectly comfortable, quiet bedroom with our own, adjacent, beautifully appointed bathroom. The room had fridge, microwave, safe and tea/coffee-making facilities. A nice added touch was a little bag of Edinburgh rock, a local delicacy. There was a parking space, kindly reserved for us at no extra charge, very useful in a city where parking is always at a premium. But best of all was the breakfast. Five different nationalities sat round a big table in the kitchen. Every conceivable taste was catered for. While I tucked in, with gusto, to the Full Scottish Breakfast, my wife had poached eggs on brown bread toast - all freshly cooked to perfection. There was also a great selection of fruit, juices and yoghurts, etc. for those who wished them, and lots of good natured conversation around the table. The whole experience, presided over by owner, Edna and her lovely assistant, Maggie, was a bargain and a delight.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the car park at the rear are possibly quieter, but noise really wasn't a problem as...

I stayed at Pillars House twice in the past year (September 2012 and July 2013) and would highly recommend it. The rooms are nice and clean. The breakfast is particularly excellent.

There are plenty of good pubs en restaurants within easy walking distance in Leith and the Edinburgh city center is only a short bus ride (buses every couple of minutes) or a somewhat longer walk away.

Highly recommended!

We had the best time at the Pillars House. The breakfast was excellent and gave us a great start to the day. The rooms were clean and cheerful to stay in. The best part of it all was Edna and her husband. They are the best hosts in Scotland. I would recommend this Bed and Breakfast to anyone who is planning on staying in Edinburgh.

We stayed at Pillars House during the last week of June 2013 and I can only highly recommend it to anyone who would like to visit or stay in Leith or Edinburgh. The rooms were comfy and clean and the Full Scottish breakfast, served at the common dining table by the host, hearty Edna and her friendly staff, is certainly ballast enough to keep you running around Edinburgh's attractions all day. Prices for 2 adults and 2 young kids were entirely reasonable considering just how expensive Edinburgh can get during the summer season.

There is more than enough parking out back and there is also a well appointed municipal park with a great kids play area a very short walk away.

I'd happily return there any time.

Room Tip: If you have issues climbing steps then better make it clear when you book! There are rooms availabl...

We spent 3 nights in this really nice B&B, and I have to say we loved it! Rooms are really cosy, the neighborhood is very quiet but at the same time there are many great places for diner and pubs within walking distance and it is only a 25 min walk from city center...or 5 min by bus (many buses close-by). But the best part is how Edna, the owner, is a GREAT cook, with her famous full Scottish breakfast being the perfect start to a full day of visits and walks in Edinburgh: we didn't feel hungry at all before the end of the day!
