I think I must have stayed in a completely different B&B than the previous reviewer. The place was spotlessly clean, the staff constantly providing us with lots of lovely fresh towels, breakfast was cooked in front of us in a perfectly clean and hygienic kitchen and we practically had to demand they give the housekeeping a miss during our brief stay.
The staff were fantastic, giving us lots of information about what to see and how to get around. I loved the breakfast arrangement, sitting at a big kitchen table with other guests as it encouraged meeting and conversation.
We had such a good time we stayed on a couple of days beyond our initial booking.
If I ever return to Edinburgh and Edna is still running The Pillars I will be staying there. It's central friendly, good value and (do I need to say it?) perfectly clean. Cheers, Imogen

- Pillars house was originally built and owned by Crawford which were offices and a spirit store in the late 18th century. Most of the building still has a lot of its character left as you can see as you walk in through the main entrance. The courtyard where our free parking is situated was traditionally used as the delivery entrance where the horse and carts brought the whiskey from the highlands to be blended. ... more less
