We could not have wish for better on our two night say at pillars house. Room was clean and Edna, our hostess, was friendly and welcoming. Excellent breakfast every morning. Would most definitely book to stay here again.

I think I must have stayed in a completely different B&B than the previous reviewer. The place was spotlessly clean, the staff constantly providing us with lots of lovely fresh towels, breakfast was cooked in front of us in a perfectly clean and hygienic kitchen and we practically had to demand they give the housekeeping a miss during our brief stay.
The staff were fantastic, giving us lots of information about what to see and how to get around. I loved the breakfast arrangement, sitting at a big kitchen table with other guests as it encouraged meeting and conversation.
We had such a good time we stayed on a couple of days beyond our initial booking.
If I ever return to Edinburgh and Edna is still running The Pillars I will be staying there. It's central friendly, good value and (do I need to say it?) perfectly clean. Cheers, Imogen

This is the first negative review we have ever written but feel it is necessary to warn other travelers!!! The place is very dirty, no sheets on the bed, our room smelled horrible and exhaust from the kitchen filled our room. Smelled like burning grease all night.

If it was not so late when we arrived we would have told them to keep our pre-payment and gladly paid for a decent hotel. Even the Hostels were far superior to this property.

This was our first trip to Edinburgh and saw many hotels that would have been wonderful. For a 14 day trip 13 nights were great and this one horrible!

Just returned form a 8 day self guided tour of Scotland. After arriving in Edinburgh and checking in our rooms at the Pillars House the first time we talked to Edna it was like talking to family she was quick to help out and give directions around the city. Coming down for breakfast every morning was enjoyable she sang and whistled around the kitchen. We spend 3 nights there then took off around the country see all the different sites that Scotland had to offer. After traveling up to Loch Ness and Isle of skye we returned back to Edinburgh and spent another 2 nights there.
I would highly recommend this B&B to anyone traveling to Scotland the rooms are very comfortable and clean and I would stay the again Thank you Edna and staff Kayce says hi!

Located in Leith near the SMWS Vaults. A little outside the old centre (25min walk) but there are busses or taxi's and the friendly host Edna is always willing to assist you. Delicious breakfast is being made while you sit in the kitchen. Very cousy. Large car park in the back.
Definitely a great B&B

From the moment you arrive at Pillars House till the moment you leave, you can be sure of hospitality of the highest order. Our visit coincided with the Edinburgh International Festival, a time when many hotels charge inflated prices. Not so, Pillars House. For the usual summer room rate, we had a perfectly comfortable, quiet bedroom with our own, adjacent, beautifully appointed bathroom. The room had fridge, microwave, safe and tea/coffee-making facilities. A nice added touch was a little bag of Edinburgh rock, a local delicacy. There was a parking space, kindly reserved for us at no extra charge, very useful in a city where parking is always at a premium. But best of all was the breakfast. Five different nationalities sat round a big table in the kitchen. Every conceivable taste was catered for. While I tucked in, with gusto, to the Full Scottish Breakfast, my wife had poached eggs on brown bread toast - all freshly cooked to perfection. There was also a great selection of fruit, juices and yoghurts, etc. for those who wished them, and lots of good natured conversation around the table. The whole experience, presided over by owner, Edna and her lovely assistant, Maggie, was a bargain and a delight.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the car park at the rear are possibly quieter, but noise really wasn't a problem as...
