“Great Location....Few Amenities”
Reviewed 24 August 2014

This basic, but modern, hotel is located right in the middle of everything. But that was their only attribute. There was no radio or clock, no tissues in the bathroom, no phone, no wake up call (obviously) and no A/C (which can be expected in northern Europe). Because we had to keep the windows open and we had an inside (no breeze) room, it was very noisy until 2 AM with revelers. Breakfast was extra and not that special, so don't bother. Spend the extra money and get a real hotel room!

After reading some of the other reviews, it seems that even though the decor is standard throughout...(modern, German, high standard bathroom facilities)..there seems to be quite important differences in sizing, windows and lighting. Maybe in price? However we, an elderly couple, stayed at room 236 for a few days during this year's Edinburgh Festival, and could not be happier with the room, the price and most particularly, with the location. The view from our room was really amazing....opposite North Bridge. The noise level was acceptable bearing in mind that it was Festival time. Certainly we could find fault with the size but we just used it for sleeping! For that it was perfect, particularly if you propose to visit the Festival or other attractions. All in all worthwhile.

Chose Motel One due to its central location and also it's very reasonable rates even during fringe festival by selection from booking.com... I used this same process last year and ended up in a room with no ensuite a single bed and curtains that wouldn't cover the windows, and for more money !!
So for me Motel One Edinburgh - Princes was superb on every level the room facing the castle on the third floor was very clean and totally equipped with coffee making facilities hanging space for clothes a work desk and a bed that made for very comfortable sleeping. The bathroom was beautiful and in the hotels blurb described as a mini spa which was accurate and a real pleasure to use. This hotel is relatively new, opening I believe in march 2014, the bar and lounge area on the first floor by the reception area was beautifully decorated and furnished..... For me you can have the smartest cleanest newest hotel in a city but none of it means jack if you don't get the service right.... Every member if the Motel One Team I encountered were very professional and couldn't have been more helpful in any way. There was one particular lady on reception (I'm sorry I didn't catch your name) who very kindly completed my online check in process for my departure flight out of Edinburgh and printed the boarding cards, for those of you that use this process will understand what a nuisance it can be to get done in some hotels I was also able to leave my luggage securely after check out.
Some reviewers have criticised Motel One for hot rooms, being noisy, poor views and being just average..... For those people may I suggest paying three times as much and stay at the Balmoral opposite !!!
Motel One truly is superb on every level I fully recommend using it when visiting Edinburgh, I most definitely will be returning.

I had nearly 2 weeks in Motel One on Princess St, the rooms were small but efficient and the bathroom very tight. The rooms are hot from time to time and it was noisy if you left the window open at night. My main complaint would be that while this is a German run motel why not employ Scottish staff? There were German and French domestic staff but few locals and I feel philosophically that whatever country the owner of this chain ventures into he should offer employment opportunities for locals first and foremost.

Room Tip: Not facing Princess Street it may be noisy

We chose this hotel as it was relatively well priced during Festival. It's location is perfect - close to the Royal Mile, close to the hop on hop off bus interchange, tram and buses. other than that, it's a basic hotel room with open hanging racks (OK for coats) and a little bathroom - shower good but no ventilation. Free wifi which is a big tick, and no limit on number of devices. We only ate breakfast there one morning as we felt it was overpriced at 7.50 pounds for continental breakfast. We found other places nearby that were better and cheaper. Staff helpful and friendly.

Location on Princess Street opposite Waverley Station exit was great. The hotel is new and part of a German chain. Reception is on 2nd floor
staff very friendly and efficient and the room was very clean and fresh. I did book a room with a view which of course was noisy with the window open I was surprised that there was no air conditioning. Edinburgh being what it is the temperature dropped and the window left open all day did cool the room down. The breakfast was very good value at £7.50 obviously continental no bacon, etc but a good choice of cheese, cooked meats and rolls and croissants and the coffee machine was excellent.

Room Tip: City view rooms noisy but the other rooms are dark and look in on a well onton other rooms and not m...

Location on Princes Street is perfect ( if a little noisy).
Don´t take a "room with a view" on the third floor. There is a parapet and you have to stand on a chair to see out the window.
Really up themselves with the "designer box" theme - they think these are boutique romos? They are not - just small.
Very easy onward travel options by rail or bus.

Room Tip: if you pay extra for a view - NOT 3rd floor.
