Description: The Wine Barrel Steakhouse has recently opened its doors at 18-20 Salamander Street, Leith. Inside you will find a warm atmosphere in which to relax and enjoy one of our freshly prepared dishes. We offer an exciting range of starters such as Smoked Ham Hock Terrine, Salad with Beef and Black Pudding and our mains include our very own Barrel Burger and a beautiful Darne of Scottish salmon. While we are proud of all of our dishes our steaks set us apart from the rest. The Wine Barrel Steakhouse uses only the finest Buccleuch beef which is renowned for its exceptional flavour, superior marbling and incredible eating quality. All the cattle are grass fed steers or heifers and have full traceability using our "Gate to Plate" policy. All of our steaks are dry aged for 40 days; this unique method of hanging meat ensures the meat develops concentrated flavour and results in extremely tender cuts. We are proud to be one of the only restaurants in Scotland to offer this quality of meat across our entire menu and are confident you will enjoy the results

“Great steaks”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 June 2014

We ate here on Saturday night. It's a small restaurant seating around 18-20 with a nice decor inside, slightly away from the main restaurant area in Leith. It was full on Saturday night which is good news for a recently opened establishment.

We all 4 had fillet steak for main course and it was really excellent and incredibly tender - probably the best we had ever eaten. We had ordered them ranging from blue to medium depending on personal preferences and when they came they were all very rare which was fine for me, who had ordered blue. No-one in our group had a problem with their steak being rarer than they would normally choose, as the steaks were so excellent - but this might be a problem for some people. There was a small hiccup with the dauphinoise potatoes my husband had ordered and this was sorted out very politely and efficiently by the very helpful staff. The starters were all good and in particular the mushrooms with tarragon on toast was really good. There was a nice selection of reasonably priced wine.

Would definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone and we hope to eat there again next time we are in Leith.

“Good but could be better still.”

The steak here is superb. What let's this place down is the details. The seats around the walls are from when it used to be a pub. The problem is that they are around 6 inches higher than the chairs at the tables which makes talking to the person opposite you a little odd. The guy who served us was very friendly and efficient although he could've gone to the trouble of ironing his shirt. Like I say it's in the details. The food is excellent but it's not cheap so I would expect better standards.

“Delicious steak”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 May 2014

The steak was one of the best I've had and the sides, especially the thin, crispy onion rings and deep fried pickles, were great. The white chocolate cheesecake was absolutely amazing! The service was excellent, the waiters are very attentive, friendly and helpful with recommendations. The food was delicious and very good quality and I will definitely come back here very soon.

“Great Meal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 May 2014 via mobile

My sister and I visited on Tuesday night this week (with a voucher) and we were very impressed with the decor, the food and the service. Loved it!

We both love steak but never get it right in the house, so it's great there is such a great steak place in Leith.

We will be back!

“Excellent Steak and service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2014 via mobile

We went to the restaurant on Sat 24th May, both starters were very tasty. I ordered the Ribeye with mushrooms, onions, corn on cob, chips, it was faultless, steak cooked to perfection. Staff were friendly and food reasonably priced. Def recommend it to anyone.
