“A midweek break”
Reviewed 30 August 2014

Got 2 nights midweek in this VERY Central hotel. Right in the middle of Princes Street in Edinburgh 20 rooms and recently refurbished but still has the feel of a comfortable sitting room. Very friendly staff. The view from the Bar and the restaurant of the Castle and the Gardens is amazing. Our room was at the rear (18) and although on the small side it was comfortable and well appointed.
There a 5 floors but the lift only goes to the 4th floor. We were offered a porter to take our luggage up.
As this hotel is a 'Members Club' there are rules for the Dining room (Collared shirt and no Technology) And it made for a better experience. Lots of fun watching people trying to remember what conversation is...
There is a members only Lounge that we were invited to have coffee in. Very Quiet, with excellent Tea, coffee and locally baked cakes.
The food was good and well presented. Breakfast was excellent with some lovely choices.
Overall it was a good experience.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front of the Hotel as they have great views. If you have access difficulty av...

I joined a colleague here for two days. The rooms are very pleasant with great views of the Castle and Princes Street Gardens and the tattoo's fireworks. Breakfast which is included in the price includes a range of choices. The fantastic "Edinburgh Grill", kippers or the usual international breakfasts.
Reception staff are most helpful at suggesting restaurants and activities. Would certainly consider a return.

Reasonably priced hotel about 100m from the main train station, nothing special but good location, you get a great view of Edinburgh Castle from the restaurant, clean and largish rooms. Its run by a very old British colonial style organisation, jacket in the restaurant and all that

Very accommodating staff, comfortable rooms and an amazing view of the castle from both the bedroom and bathroom. With the window open at night we could even clearly hear all the music from the tattoo. Conveniently located along public transport lines and within walking distance of major attractions

Stayed here for 3 nights in August which is a very busy time for Edinburgh due to the fringe and Military Tattoo. Prices reflect this as we paid nearly 500 pound for 3 nights (average price around this time of year)

Arrived early afternoon to leave our bags in the lobby as could check in from 3pm. Reception staff very pleasant and helpful.
On check in had no issues and we were given room 12, which on the 4th floor, we were grateful the hotel had a lift to get to. Room 12 was technically a twin room, but they pushed the beds together for us to make a double.

Our room had a great view of the castle which was a big plus. Nice ensuite, although the room is a little dated and the window didn't open as the hinges were bust, didn't force it as didn't want the whole window to drop out. This made the room a little hot sometimes.

Nice tea and coffee facilities and 2 small bottles of water given everyday which was nice.
Ironing board and iron available on the corridor which we used twice.

Breakfast is nice as there are cereals on offer, stewed fruits, fresh fruit and yogurts, also fruit juices. You can also order porridge as a hot alternative. The cooked breakfast is of high standard and little pots of Jam and honey are available to put on toast etc.

In the welcome pack we noticed it said there were discounts available to visit the Britannia yacht and to ask at reception. When we asked however, we were told this was only available to ROSL members, which we felt was unfair and misleading.

We asked for a continental breakfast to be delivered to our room as we were going on an early tour, we specifically asked for porridge to be delivered and what we got was cornflakes. Not impressed, also only one yoghurt given between two of us, I had to go down myself and grab more from the breakfast room.

All in all, a nice place, great walkable location to the centre, but if I had a room not facing the castle id be disappointed especially with the price you pay. I would return here, but please, sort that room 12 window out!!

We stayed for just one night and were very impressed with the view from our room - the Ramsay suite I believe. Fantastic view of the castle

The place overall is clean and tidy - perfectly acceptable but if your room doesn't have a great view it's not going to blow you away - other than the very central location. In truth it's the location that makes it and will make you want to return.

The staff were all very helpful. We only had breakfast there but it was very good.

There is no parking at the hotel and for overnight stays it's a bit of a trek but quite manageable.

This was actually our second stay at this hotel. On our first visit we did not have a very good experience and we contacted the manager about this. We received an apology and also an invite back to stay again which we took up. We could not fault it the second time round. All of the staff where very friendly, the food was lovely and the service we received was excellent. The hotel is on Princess Street so very good for shopping and most things are within walking distance. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for somewhere nice to stay that is easily accessible to the heart of Edinburgh.

Room Tip: This hotel has a stunning view of Edinburgh Castle.
