I cannot fault the cleanliness of the room. The bed was comfortable and the towels were soft. Kettle and tea/coffee/hot chocolate were provided which were welcome. The actual accommodation was satisfactory. However, I do think that the signage of where to "check in" should be clearer as the campus is quite large and there are a lot of buildings that are lit up and look like they could be where you need to go. "Reception" is halfway up the campus. Also, be aware that the walls are quite thin even though they are breeze block! I could hear the people in the room next to me quite clearly until about 2am (although I believe it was my falling asleep at this time rather than them stopping talking!) I believe I had my revenge at 8.30am when my alarm went off loudly and a lot (at least 4 snoozes!) It was also a little annoying having "housekeeping" knocking at my door at 9.30am when I don’t think it would harm them to wait until 10am when people have to leave. On the whole though, a cheap nights accommodation at an adequate standard. A student Travelodge!
Traveller's tip on saving a few bucks

Take ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. Take a hairdryer as there isn’t one supplied. Take entertainment (iPod/personal games console) as there is no telly!

Had just been on a rail trip to London and needed to rest up for a couple of days near Edinburgh for my flight back to Canada. Nice quiet rural location about 20 minute bus ride from Waverly Station (main train station) in Edinburgh. Food was excellent in campus style cafateria, included in price of dorm style accommodations. Able to stroll around pleasant campus in evenings and then hop frequently running double decker bus into town for some sight seeing or shopping

I stayed here over a weekend during the Edinburgh Festival. The room was small (well, it is just a dorm room) but very clean and the en suite bathroom had plenty of hot water and was immaculate. Although it's about a 20 minute bus ride into the city centre, it is situated in a very quiet and peaceful park-like setting, and I liked that. The busses run about every ten minutes right from the university. The bed was comfortable, fresh towels, tea and coffee was supplied everyday, and I always felt safe, as a solo female traveler. The cafeteria served hot meals everyday and the prices were reasonable -- about 3 pounds for breakfast, around 6 pounds for dinner (I wasn't there at lunchtime). For the price, it was a great set up and I would definitely stay there again. It was just clean, basic accommodations at a reasonable cost.

  • Liked — Comfort and price
  • Disliked — No switchboard service after 5:00 p.m.
