The first thing that impressed me was the location for the price. Stuart's flat is in the heart of Edinburgh, yet the rate for the time of year was very reasonable. Then there's the host, whom we shall now call St. Stuart, and here is why: I didn't think to give Stuart my full flight itinerary, though i did let him know what time i expected to land. It was my first experience with multiple connecting flights, and as seasoned travelers know, delays are highly likely. my flight was late arriving, indeed, but there were other factors compounding my delayed arrival to the flat, where poor Stuart was waiting, trying in vain to contact me on a phone that had no international coverage. when i did finally arrive, he was lovely, AND he carried my 62-pound suitcase up the 4 flights of stairs to the flat, all with cheerful aplomb. did i mention my assertion of his qualification for sainthood?
now the flat. it was just right. a proper one bedroom, cozy, but not in the real estate sales sense of the word, meaning code for a matchbox. there is a bedroom, a sitting room, an efficiency kitchen, and a bathroom. it is an attic flat, and looks out upon York place, where one can see the townhouses across the way (a treat for the 17-18th century architecture fans). the bed is divine, truly. the pillows are feathered but firm, and plentiful, the mattress a perfect balance of soft and firm, and the duvet....oy, i still miss that duvet.
the only drawbacks i can think of - and these are purely for those who might not like these things, not necessarily drawbacks for everyone - are the natural noises of the city (sirens, trams, buses), and lots of stairs. everything else was just gorgeous. location, conveniences, people, host.
if this is to be a recommendation, then let it be. don't hesitate to grab this rental if it's available. please know that Stuart and his lovely mrs. are great hosts, and will take care of your needs, yet will be as hands off as necessary.
A cosy retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city, whilst being in the heart of the action. Incredibly easy access to tram connection and tourist venues. An ideal base from which to explore Edinburgh. Stuart was very friendly and welcoming. 69 steps from street to flat: great if you're fit, but worth bearing in mind if you're less nippy!
Stuart's place was lovely, comfortable and clean. It is perfectly situated and we were able to walk everywhere. Stuart was very accommodating with our later check in time and gave a few fantastic food and coffee shop recommendations, as well as great sight seeing recommendations. I would definitely stay here again!
Great place to stay if you like clean, comfortable, affortable stay almost right in the heart of the City..If you take the stairs to the third floor as a free work out (I am 55) There are no complaints. Was perfect for us!
The flat is located in world heritage site of New Town in Edinburgh, close to the main sites and attractions, well communicated with airport by tram line. Completely equipped, it felt like being at home. Ideal for a trip for a couple to this superb city. Stuart, the owner, was great, friendly and helpful at top level. Definitely recommended to my friends for their visits to Edinburgh. Whenever I come back I will visit again!
My partner and I stayed here over Christmas and it was great! The flat is literally a 2 minute walk around a corner to the centre, so no bus etc to get there. The flat is well equipped, comfy bed and decor is nice (however a comfier sofa would have been an extra bonus because chilled nights in were a little uncomfortable). Stu was the best part of our stay, he was so accommodating and generous - thank you Stu! I would definitely recommend! :)
The house is bigger than you can see in the photos. It’s within walking distance of all points of the city. Neneh and Stu were very attentive. Incredible stay! Recommended 100%
