“Easy access to Edinburgh ”
Reviewed 22 May 2014 via mobile

Helpful and pleasant staff, but ultimately this is a generic out-of-town big-chain hotel. Pool and parking are the reasons we chose this over a hotel in the centre of Edinburgh.

Good points: two minute walk to the train station, then very quick, cheap, and regular journey into the centre of Edinburgh. Breakfast was also good, includes haggis!

Bad points: noise from road/rail and nearby shops made it difficult to sleep with the window open. Air conditioning system too noisy to use at night.

.........Bloody trains!!! We were in one of the rooms which backs on to the railway line and now trams! At one point, we thought they were going to tip toe past at night but nope! Flippin things are noisy as hell! Never mind....

Okay - on to the good stuff - food is excellent. I hear expensive but to be honest, no more so than if you went out. The restaurant is nicely set out, service was also great. It's convenient to eat there but if you really don't fancy it, there are fast food joints outside if that's better for you.

Parking is plentiful although the spaces are not as big as I would like. I was worried about dings in the car but thankfully, all was well on that front.

Room was perfectly clean and the bathroom very nice. Speaker in there also so you can listen to the news whilst getting showered etc. beds are quite firm but are large enough - at least we did not keep rolling into each other throughout the night.

TV in the room was decent although you get the usual lack of channels on there for obvious reasons - extra charges for movies etc. They all seem to do it and it annoys me when freeview is a perfectly acceptable option that they deny us from. Wifi is always available and fast enough for basic stuff - don't even think about movies on your laptop though unless you connect via LAN - didn't use that and so not sure if that's charged as an extra. Wifi was fine for other stuff though.

Trains are 2 mins walk from the hotel and you're right in the middle of the city in 10 mins for £3 each off peak. Very convenient.

Breakfast was a very decent selection - cooked, fresh fruit, everything really - very impressed with that.

Staff very helpful and polite as you would expect.

We would stay there again for sure but would ask for a room away from the rail tracks - do yourself a favour and do the same or prepare for a disturbed night.

Stayed for one night on business. Arrived by train. Hotel is next to the station. Warm reception at the hotel. A lovely spacious bedroom. bathroom shower is weirdly designed as I managed to flood the bathroom by the time I had finished! Some areas in there also need repainting and mould needs removing. Small issues overall though. Gym , pool and steam room all great. Evening meal was ok. Breakfast was outstanding, they even served haggis! All in All well worth the price and will become my new stopover hotel when up this way.

Edinburgh hotels always raise their prices during the famous Fringe Festival. Even though the hotel is located outside of town, we stayed at Hotel Novotel Edinburgh Park last year and it was the best decision ever. The rate is cheap enough considering the high season, and you get the Novotel quality - clean rooms and great breakfast. The couch turns into a pull out, so perfect for our 2 kids. The room gets tight though when you take into account luggage for 4 people. A plus is the indoor pool which is great for the little ones. Breakfast is great because you can ask for gluten free options (Edinburgh restaurants usually have gluten free in their menus). The choices are good, though it can get tiring to have the same breakfast for the whole week. The train station is only a 5-10 minute walk and you get to town in a jiffy. You can just buy your ticket in the train when the conductor passes by. The schedule is usually on time. Tesco is just across the train station, which is great because they close really late at night. Perfect when you come back from the festival and you still need to buy a few stuff. Just a mere stone's throw away are KFC and Krispy Kreme, for those emergency hunger pangs. The staff are great!

As stated this was our 2nd stay here mainly because we love the place.Great staff clean hotel, proximity to trai ns and soon to be tram connections to tne city centre. The room rates are excellent and bar and food prices are good.Only thing that seemed strange was we were allocated a disabled room with full disabled facilities which was unnecessary as we are able bodied and fit for our ages.....the toilet was a bit awkward as was the seat in the shower.....This didnt affect another excellent stay. One thing I would like to know is why is there a security barrier to the car park which can be easily driven round via the secondary driving lane ?

We stayed here as we had an early flight from Edinburgh airport, the hotel was lovely, immaculately clean, close to the airport and the staff were lovely. The room was spacious and we had our 15 year old son with us. The wifi was free, as was the parking. The room had all amenities required, tv, tea/coffee, making facilities, hairdryer, toiletries and we slept soundly on comfortable beds. The staff really went out of their way to help as when I discovered at 10pm I had left our boarding passes at home , the receptionist very kindly and with no trouble at all printed me new ones out. Will definitely stay here again next time we are flying from Edinburgh.

We stayed here as it worked out cheeper than staying in Edinburgh and the trains (5 mins walk away) run every 10 minutes into Edinburgh (£3 return off peak). Opposite the hotel is a retail park with Tesco, KFC, Krispy Krem Donuts etc.
The hotel and room was clean and modern. Bed was very comfy. The room was very quiet. There is a mini-bar fridge with water (take your own as £2.50 bottle). Tea / coffee facilities. Proper hairdrier! Ironing board and iron. Room service is available, but we didn't use.
The breakfast in the morning was lovely and it wasn't too busy.
What I liked was at weekends breakfast is served until 11am and check out is 12 noon, so chance for a lie in!
The pool was lovely and warm. Towels are provided. Pool never seemed to get busy max. 4 people in at a time. Didn't use the gym but looked very modern and well equipped.

Room Tip: We were allocated a disabled room. The toilet was a little high for me (I'm 5'11") so p...
