We were a little apprehensive about trying this restaurant, having read some the negative reviews. However, the food was lovely and the waiters very polite.

“Excellent food and service”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

We have eaten here several times and have never been disappointed. Tonight we had a jalfrezie each - one lamb and one chicken. Both were excellent, and the lamb in particular was tender and succulent. We had a bottle of the house wine, which was very good and very cheap.

The service was very efficient and friendly.

Altogether another extremely positive experience in this restaurant.

“spice the mainbrace!”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

This is a first for us , an Indian restaurant with a nautical theme!
Chose this restaurant as it was a minute's walk from the holiday inn we were staying at.
Although I had booked a table for 6 people I had to help the waitress push two tables together, strange considering the place was almost empty of diners.
The food is Indian, Thai and Nepalese and the menu has many choices. A nice idea, next to some of the dishes is a recommended side dish to go with your meal.
We chose our starters and mains, had drinks and then waited and waited and waited.....as I said there was only two other tables occupied!
When the starters finally arrived I must say everyone was happy with them.
Again the main dishes were excellent, portion and taste, however one of our party ate a rather hot chilli and asked for some water. he waited and waited and waited while the waitress chatted to the barman finally he had to shout across the room.
I dread to think what the service would be like if the room was 50% full.
On the whole excellent food, nice décor but dreadful service.

“Bit poor”
Reviewed 12 August 2014

My husband and i have just had a meal in the Britannia Spice with a Amazon voucher was disappointed when we arrived the voucher said that it included a beer each after much discussion they said that Amazon had got it wrong it should not be a free beer but they would honour it this time, I presume it was the manager who then proceeded to phone Amazon to complain this was done where we could hear which I thought was very bad taste over two beers. The service was very slow considering we were the only ones in the restaurant. The starter when it came was lovely then we had the main course the meal tasted nice but was just warm and no more I proceeded to tell the waiter but he said sorry they would get it right next time they still seemed more upset about the free beers than the fact that the food was cold.

“Not that fantastic as we hoped it would be”
Reviewed 6 August 2014

We were really looking forward to eating here as it got some good reviews on tripadvisor, however, afterwards we were disappointed. The menu is quite extensive so you have a lot to choose from. Even if you have people in your party who don't like Indian/spicy food, they also do chicken with fries. The restaurant itself looks really nice. A lot of tables. The staff tries to be really friendly, but makes mistakes. I got the wrong curry, we were served the wrong drinks, etc.
The portions are huge, so if you are a big eater you won't be disappointed at all.
You have to pay extra for some appetizers. In most restaurants you get them for free, here you have to pay for everything. Your dish doesn't come with rice, you have to order it extra.

We chose this restaurant because we were staying in the Holiday Inn next door, but we wouldn't go there again. The proximity of the hotel (if you want to have a drink or have children which need to go to bed after dinner) is a bonus.
