Arrived for our table at 8.30pm, it was neatly tucked away by the door. Wonderful decor, with extravagant seilings and tiled murals and a heaving public bar adjoining. The place was busy and full of atmosphere. The waiter was attentive and funny. Great seafood - as you would expect, and although the meal was a bit pricey we did have lobster so it was totally worth it. The mussels to start and the scallops were excellent. Good puds and coffe too. And just a couple of minutes walk back to our apartment

I visited this restaurant with my family for lunch on Saturday. All five meal were cold small portions they were also poor quality seafood and meat. It is quite embarrassing for a local to think what a visitor's impression may be of our city's cuisine. The poor quality food and service is more disappointing when compared to the beautiful original interior with stained glass, marble and ornate carved woodwork

We went in there for a drink and a bar meal and would certainly go again. The service was very welcoming and good but what makes this place stand out is the interior which is well worth a look. The food was good although a little pricey for what we had.

The Café Royal was recommended by a friend - ex-native of Edinburgh and we were so glad it was our first stop after traveling from London. Not only was the food really good (& it's kind of surprising to find an Oyster Bar in Edinburgh) it was the personalized comfortable banter with our server Gordon (also Manager I think) that made us feel so welcome. His friendly & funny welcome put a smile on our faces and I'm really sorry we didn't get back to see this red-headed hottie again. We were also impressed with the architecture of the Café - huge (very expensive!) Dansk murals adorn the walls and the Café has also recently been mentioned in the new James Bond novel.
Definitely would love to go back to Scotland and highly recommend the Café Royal Oyster Bar!
