Elegant surroundings, classy atmosphere, beautiful food, what more could a girl want for something special? A great cocktail menu and can thoroughly recommend the fish and chips.

“A must see in Edinburgh”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 September 2013

The food was above average, wine list fine and service was great, but nothing beats this sensational building for style. High ceilings with gorgeous cornices and huge domes, huge floral displays and very effective use of mirrors. I loved it! Would certainly return if we had more time.

“Pretencious, highly overated, common snobbery”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 September 2013

Two good friends and I arrived at the bar around 7:30pm in order to have a few drinks after work on a Friday night. As we approached we were informed by the doorman that it was supposedly "reservations only." Bear in mind that this was the bar section of the building and not the restaurant we were trying to get into. I should add, we are all 30+ and in respectable jobs

As we stood there questioning how it could be reservations only an older couple walked straight in, no questions asked. So clearly the "reservations only" was nothing but a lie in order to refuse us entry for reasons unknown. The only thing I can think of is that one of my friends was wearing a hooded top, but other than this he was dressed extremely smartly. Trousers, shirt and shoes.

Perhaps the doorman was having a bad day but it's certainly the last time I will be going anywhere The Dome.

If you are looking for a good night out there are substantially better and less expensive places to go in Edinburgh. If on the other hand you are looking for a pretentious and overrated venue filled with ostentatious people, then look no further than The Dome

“Pathetic, pretencious and poor.”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 September 2013

We were recommended The Dome by a friend. We arrived at 16:07
hrs to have afternoon tea. The waitress that showed us to our table was helpful. We were sat by a radiator and it was very hot. When I asked our waiter to move us to a vacant table he said" I will put a napkin over the radiator". I said, " we would like to move to that vacant table, away from the heat source". He seemed to be annoye by my request and put the crockery down with force. At this point, we decided to leave as his customer skills were abysmal. I reported the matter to the floor manager Anna, and her apology was very insincere.
We walked down George Street and found "Browns". We had afternoon tea in pleas t sorrow dings and the staff were attentive, pleasant and professional. Perhaps the staff at The Dome should seek some training from Browns .

“Good but could've been better”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 September 2013

Ate here on a busy Friday evening. Food was good - we'd no complaints about that but service was erratic - slow and confused - e.g. they forgot to serve my dessert, which i then cancelled as they'd already brought our coffee & liqueurs. No-one seemed to be in charge and while staff seemed to be trying hard, they lacked direction & control. As I said, food was tasty, plentiful and prices were reasonable for the type of establishment. A bit more care and attention could ensure a really memorable experience instead of just a good one.
