Tiny restaurant tucked away on the Royal Mile, and down a flight of steps. Cosy atmosphere, with attentive but not intrusive service, and you really feel like you are in a well loved family restaurant. Collops were superb, and the selection on the menu was one of those that make you want to come back again and again to work your way through. A must for anyone wanting somewhere a bit out of the ordinary

Very excellent. We split a superb smoked Salmon starter. My wife had the lamb, perfectly cooked and well proportioned. My beef special was excellent - medium rare with a tasty Scotish sauce. The cost with a bottle of house wine was £78.
There are only about 20 chairs, so make a reservation and enjoy.

I took my mum here as a surprise birthday treat. We were not disappointed. The staff were really friendly, checking we had all we needed and with great knowledge of the food. The atmosphere is cosy and intimate but still friendly and relaxed. We didn't feel we needed to be quiet or act in a certain way that some top restaurants can make you feel like. The food was incredible! The best we have eaten in a long time. Portion sizes were great, flavour was amazing and the price was very reasonable given the quality of our meals. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Edinburgh. Traditional food and a great experience.

We were delighted to find Dubh Prais serving wonder food in a cozy space with excellent service. It is on the touristy Royal Mile, but don't be put off. It is a thoroughly professional, small restaurant. We could not have been more pleased.

We were put on the spot by American relatives who wished to take us out for a meal and we were to book the venue.

Having been to the Dubh Prais some time ago, we thought that this would be a good venue for Americans as the menu on offer is distinctively Scottish.

It would appear to have slipped a little in the Tripadviser Charts from when we first made the booking, but we still feel that in terms of a "Scottish experience" it is still very near the top.

Our American relatives were delighted with our choice and were well pleased with the meal.

Despite it being early on a Tuesday evening, the place was very busy, and with only 24 covers available, two table parties of 7 and 8 respectively somewhat raised the noise levels within the restaurant and we eventually found conversation difficult.

The service was first class and was attentive, efficient, but not overbearing

The food was well prepared and very tasty. The Haggis starters were well received as was the salmon and the "collop" specials.

Pricewise this is at the top end of the Edinburgh eatery market, so it is unlikely that you will have an evening meal for less than £35 per head inclusive of a service charge.

This venue is central and convenient and worth a visit, but you will probably not get a table unless you pre-book.
