Description: Opening Hours:-Lunch Monday - Friday 12pm-2pm, Saturday 12pm - 4pm. Dinner Monday - Saturday 5pm-10.30pm. West Edinburgh wasn't a dining hotspot, but charming, inviting, delicious First Coast is one of the establishments that have been changing that. A comfy toddle from Haymarket station, First Coast is quite an intimate, relaxed shop front restaurant done out the blues and greys of the sea, with rough hewn centre wall and super smart detailing. The frequently-changing modern Scottish menu lists meat and fowl as well as fish. Starters include very tender marinated squid, soy and sesame salad, mains include spicy grilled chicken breast with homemade sweet chilli sauce and coconut rice, and sweets include deep fried jam sandwich with vanilla ice cream- seriously. Short, thoughtful wine list, good vegetarian choices and warm service.

We visited first coast on recommendation from a previous staff member. We had lunch - 2 courses for £12.50. Both courses were fabulous! Perfect balance of flavours. Each member of our group had a different combination of starters and mains and all were equally impressed! Very friendly staff and prompt service. Very nicely decorated, in keeping with the name of the establishment. Would highly recommend for a small group or couple looking for a fresh, tasty and relaxed meal.

I enjoyed a three course menu - good value at £15.50 - consisting of spicy tomato soup, coley with cheese topping, and toffee / banana oat crumble. The choices on this menu were quite wide, with some unusual offerings. The portions were not large but this was fine for three courses. The location is a little out of the city centre but not too far to walk (in my case to Usher Hall). An advantage for me was the early opening - 5pm. The service was polite and pleasant, and prompt at first when I was the only diner, but slowed somewhat as more people came in. Care and thought has been given to the decoration - blue and white outside, and inside a number of sea themed paintings also on a blue theme.

Three of us dined here- 2 off the pre-theatre style menu , one off the a la carte. Delicious. Fresh food, beautifully cooked - someone in the kitchen knows what they are doing. Two courses for 3 people and a bottle of wine for £61.00. Very good value. Busy on a Tuesday night (cause the food is so good), great atmosphere and efficient friendly service - relaxed but not too casual. Will definitley go here again. PS very good home made bread.

We have visited for the second time and were absolutely delighted.
Although we arrived late and were probably the last customers we didn't feel rushed and had an excellent meal.
The food was stunning and the service impeccable. I had braised ox cheek which was nicely cooked and literally falling apart, served with crispy (pan-fried?) polenta, nice little parsley and shallot salad and a tasty jus. lovely. My girlfriend had a spinach & crowdie rotolo which, as we were told, was a new item on the menu. She loved it and although I'm generally a big fan of meat, the dish must have been the best vegetarian dish I've ever tried.
Everything was reasonably priced.
In general, good experience, strongly recommend, and will be back
