Description: First Coast, named after a small village in the west of Scotland, is a quality neighbourhood restaurant in the west of Edinburgh, serving top quality modern Scottish food at reasonable prices in a friendly, relaxed environment. With ingredients sourced as locally as possible, our chefs focus on using bold flavours and unfussy presentation to create fresh, tasty, homemade food while still incorporating flavours from around the world. We use the best of Scottish produce, but in an original and interesting way.

We have been here a few times and never been disappointed. The food is fresh, tasty and v high quality and the prices are very competitive. The restaurant has a real buzz too. Would certainly recommend and it is worth going slightly off the beaten track for.

Up from London, wandered off the beaten tourist track, liked the look of the menu, so ate here. Menu not over large, fish/meat/veg all catered for. Tight menu may indicate quality ingredients, which was the case. Starters excellent, mains very good. Most wines by the glass. Had to run for the theatre, so missed the puds. We had the early evening menu, which was excellent value. Would visit it again, this time with time to enjoy at leisure.

My wife's sisters, partners and ourselves take it in turns to choose a restaurant monthly to meet up for lunch. My wife had been here before, so she suggested it. Very impressed with their 3 course lunch options. A bit different from what I might normally choose, but it was really good and the wine was reasonably priced as well. Will be more than happy to go back here to see what other delicacies they can produce on their menu.

We ate here one evening and got a table without having to book. The range of foods on the menu was interesting with a god mix of styles but for me they didn't quite carry it off. The side dishes in particular were a little odd with my aubergine dish tasting a little too sharp and vinegary. The food was all cooked eel, it was just the odd mixes that let it down for me. Having said that I would be prepared to try it again if in the area.

Came here on a Tuesday night with some friends for the Early Evening menu, which offers a great range of choices with some innovative flavours and unusual ingredients. We all happened to fancy the fish so we all had the coley, served with creme fraiche, baby potatoes, and basil amongst others. Fish was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. We then tried all three of the desserts - pistachio parfait, toffee and banana oat crumble with ice cream, and chocolate & hazelnut meringue. All three were lovely. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend.
