Description: Opening Hours:- MONDAY - Saturday. Lunch 12pm-2pm Dinner 5pm-10.30pm West Edinburgh wasn't a dining hotspot, but charming, inviting, delicious First Coast is one of the establishments that have been changing that. A comfy toddle from Haymarket station, First Coast is quite an intimate, relaxed shop front restaurant done out the blues and greys of the sea, with rough hewn centre wall and super smart detailing. The frequently-changing modern Scottish menu lists meat and fowl as well as fish. Starters include very tender marinated squid, soy and sesame salad, mains include spicy grilled chicken breast with homemade sweet chilli sauce and coconut rice, and sweets include deep fried jam sandwich with vanilla ice cream- seriously. Short, thoughtful wine list, good vegetarian choices and warm service.

“Consistently great food and lovely dining experience”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

My husband and I eat here regularly as we live nearby and the food is consistently of a really high standard and great value. The flavour combinations are always interesting too and the staff very friendly and attentive. It also has a lovely relaxed atmosphere. I generally like to try new restaurants and am reluctant to eat in the same place too often but I keep on returning to this restaurant and every time it feels like such a treat - the fact that they update their menu so frequently too keeps things varied. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough.

“Sublime”
Reviewed 15 August 2014 via mobile

We booked a table at First Coast after seeing it in the Lonely Planet guide.

What a great restaurant.

The menu is not overloaded which clearly means that it is all cooked fresh.

There are also daily specials.

I had steamed hake for main which was a delight. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable and the restaurant has a great buzz.

We can't praise it enough!

“Fantastic Meal”
Reviewed 15 August 2014

We were recommended to eat here by our hotel the Haymarket (worth staying at!!!) and although they were very busy they managed to fit us in. The place was nicely and simply decorated and although busy the service was very good, the food offered was interesting dishes and tasted terrific, all for a reasonable price. We will definately eat there next time we visit Edinburgh and will pre-book just to make sure we don't miss out.

“Good value lunch”
Reviewed 12 August 2014

We went back having not been for a couple of years. I had the starter of black pudding which was rather ordinary, bordering on disappointing. My colleague had the mushroom soup which was well received. We both had the steak for the main for which there was a supplement. We order our steaks cooked differently and each was cooked as ordered. The steak itself was well flavoured. The accompanying potatoes were fine but the green salad was like that you get out of bag from a supermarket cheap range dull and lifeless. Good reasonably priced wine by the glass. A mixed review but the value just gets it into the 4/5 bracket. I suspect the dinner/ a la carte option is a step up tough.

“A regular place for excellence”
Reviewed 12 August 2014

Stopped in for lunch this week and ate from their set menu. Butler's steak is tremendous and reasonable. Friend has a pork stew which she thought was sublime, and she regularly picks pork in restaurants. You always get homemade bread at the table which is very tasty. We finished off with a coffee which was also lovely. We regularly eat here and have never been disappointed. One of the best places around. They know what they are doing with food!
