We decided to go to the Canny Man for a nice quiet pint. It is just a few minutes from our front door and we like to support local pubs in our area. Unfortunately we were met with an unsavoury and very backwards attitude, one not fit for today's society. The staff at the bar were professional and asked for our ID, which was provided without issue and we received our pints. While about to go look for a seat a woman approached us and demanded our ID again. She had been watching us while we were at the bar. Upon explination that we had just had our ID checked she informed us she was the manager and demanded our ID. We gave her our ID and she looked at it, returned it then stormed off. No other person in the pub received such treatment. We felt judged for being students and not being so well dressed as others and it showed in the attitude of the manager and some of the clients. Pub's need to be inclusive of all people and I strongly abhor establishments that are classist and judge people based on their appearance. At the end of the day we did not act inappropriately nor did we say anything offensive. We were perfectly amicable and just wanted a nice relaxing time at our local. Won't be returning.

We discovered this incredible atmospheric pub at lunchtime and were so impressed we booked a table for the evening.
The service by a lovely and attentive lady was second to none and we were made to feel very welcome. The food was wonderful and very well presented, the soups were excellent.

You are asked to write your own order out which took a little getting used to, but the lady who served us helped and all was excellent. So much so we booked for the following evening.

Oh Dear our second evening was totally marred by a very grumpy gentleman dressed in a suit who attended to us, his attitude and hospitality were very questionable and if we had received this total apathy on our first visit we would never have returned.

So if the grumpy guy in a suit is serving in the restaurant come back another day

I used to like this place because it was exclusive, but now they seem to let in any ruffian off the street. We went in for lunch but left soon after due to the loud swearing from some tracksuited men at the bar. There was a time when undesirables were asked to leave...
