Description: Relocated from Castle Douglas to Leith (lucky for us), The Plumed Horse is the brainchild of superstar Chef/Proprietor Tony Borthwick who earned the restaurant a Michelin Star in 2001. Although the move to Leith has meant giving up the star it can’t possibly be too long before the Plumed Horse is decorated again. Stylishly simple, the restaurant is all white walls, white linen and light and airy space, the ideal backdrop to an evening of gastronomic delights. The imaginative menu has lost nothing in its relocation, still boasting impressively modern cuisine with a good classical twist and presentation which almost stops you digging in with that fork. The Plumed Horse’s star has certainly not fallen

The five course tasting menu lunch we've just had at The Plumed Horse was the best food I've eaten in a Edinburgh in a long time, with ambience and service to match. Not only do I recommend you to go, I urge you to.

From arrival to departure the experience was impeccable. Efficient and attentive, but not intrusive, service, a very good wine list to suit all tastes and purses, were icing on the cake of the food, every mouthful of which was a deep pleasure.

I'm already looking forward to going back. These guys know how to provide a complete dining experience, and if you think the prices look high, in my opinion they are easily justifiable for what you get in return.

My new favourite restaurant in Edinburgh,

We enjoyed our lunch at the Plumed Horse. It may not have a star at the moment but it is still a top end dining experience. Very attentive / knowledgable waiting staff and nothing left to chance.

The food was very good (especially the cerviche). Perhaps on the safe side in terms of flavour combinations. The brownie that we had for dessert was more like a cheesecake.

Ultimately a three course lunch is pretty good value. I probably wouldn't want to spend nearly double for the evening menus with stiff competition from The Kitchin and Wisharts a few metres up the road.

Thanks aerodj,
Nice review up until the last lines.
We hope you might reconsider some time. Especially given the price differences between us and our "STIFF" competition.
We are often compared favourably. Oh well. You win some you lose some.

Eight course tater menu with the accompanying wines. First and foremost Food and service were fantastic. The taste from the ingredients was incredible, we couldn't fault a single dish. It was difficult to pick the 'star of the show' but it came down to the rabbit and souffle, rabbit edged it for me. Staff were very attentive and informative, talking us through the food and wines, the plumed horse is great experience and worthy of a visit, in my case another visit ! Well done to them all, we enjoyed the food, wines and service - faultless.

We visited the Plume Horse for the first time last week.

The staff we friendly, well trained, and attentive.

Although the restaurant was very busy, the service was prompt and efficient in the nice relaxing ambience of the restaurant.

Opting for the three-course we were not disappointed. The food was cooked to perfection and presented beautifully on the plates.

Front of house staff were very knowledgeable about our dishes ordered and were able to give a full description of the food as they served it at the table.

An amuse-bouche to start and petit fours with the excellent coffee served at the end of our dinner enhanced our dining experience.

Price wise, the menu and wines we opted to have, offered very good value for money in a restaurant of this high standard.

Lovely review. Charlie Brown! Don't you be listening to what The Coasters sang about you. We disagree wholeheartedly.
