“Friendly service and top food at a good price”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 February 2012

We visited Wedgwood on the strength of it's awards and reviews since opening and weren't disappointed! We also didn't have a problem getting a table, but I understand for some people that has been an issue. The service is exceptionally friendly and the atmosphere is pretty lively. The food is really good, clearly aiming at the group of restaurants at the top of the Edinburgh ladder - but at a better price. The venison and the cheese were stand outs. My only complaint, and it's a very small one, was that my portion of pork belly could have been slightly more generous. Overall though an excellent choice if visiting Edinburgh!

“Why did it take us so long?”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 February 2012

Wedgwood was recommended to me years ago by a colleague but for some reason we have never tried it - today we rectified that error.

Booked in for lunch - at £10 for 2 courses and £14 for 3 courses - it did seem very well priced. There are some dishes you can pay a supplement for or add as an extra course.

I started with the shredded beef salad with pear and honey and sesame dressing. It was stunning. Husband had the duck breast on risotto - very good but just not quite as good as my beef.

Main courses - I had coley with crispy veg stir fry and crispy potato slices. Hubby had spicy meatballs with sweet potato puree. both dishes were beautifully presented and tasted great.

Desert - Extra sticky toffee pudding for husband and I had the cheese board. Toffee pudding was light and fluffy and super sweet - just how it should be. The cheese board was generous and there were 4 different cheeses to try - mild through to Dunsair Blue!

We washed it down with a bottle of Gewürztraminer - bio dynamic - sweet and fresh and clean.

All in it was just over £80 and I have to say it was worth every penny. Such a shame we haven't been here before but we will definitely be back. Dinner next time i think.

“Food excellent, service good but....”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 February 2012

Went with a close friend to dinner on Tuesday night, table was a bit small for two people with the condiments etc fighting for space especially when water and wine was added.
Food was excellent, service was good - though they did forget to pour the wine at times.
At table for c.6 people was close to us (empty at the time of our arrival and during the entree) , just before our main arrived the guests for that table arrived with additional guests. The restaurant took them all by moving the table closer and adding extra seating and another table. This table was so close that one of the chairs was pushed up against our table and the patron knocked the bottle of wine (not aware of course). We asked the staff to move our table away further which they did, however from that moment on you could no longer speak or hear each other. The table was too close and the though the patrons were not in themselves overly loud the acoustics carried to the extent you could hear everything they were saying and could not hear, nor could you speak. This made what should have been a very pleasant evening unbearable. We ate our main which was lovely but did not enjoy it as we felt we were a part of a noisy crowd. We finished our main and requested the bill. When asked for feedback we explained we would have ordered another bottle of wine, had desert, coffee and liquor but the noise was overwhelming and had made a pleasant evening unpleasant. The response was 'sorry we cant do much about it they bought extra people, you could always have booked the private dining'..... wrong answer! When you go to dine in what is suppose to be an upmarket restaurant where food, service and ambience are important you expect a certain standard. This was lacking, if they had the private dining facilities why didn't they use that for the enlarged group? In essence a short term profit was more important to them then long term committed patrons. My partner said based on the food and the wine list he would chosen to come back to entertain clients, however with the noise level as it was - no chance. For me, I wanted a lovely evening where I could chat easily with my partner, surely not too much to ask.
We will not be going back again.

“Delicious!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 February 2012

This is a copy of the email I sent to Wedgewood after our evening meal.
"Myself and my partner would just like to send you a little email to thank you for such a lovely meal last night. It has been such a long time since we enjoyed a meal so much from start to finish. Your staff were not only very professional but also very friendly, engaging and attentive to us from the moment we arrived. As for the food, it was absolutely delicious! We had the Lobster thermidor and for the main Pork Belly and Fillet of beef. All fabulous! The flavours in the Pork Belly dish worked so well together and as for the Beef it was cooked to perfection. For the sweet we had Parsnip Brulee and also Sea Buckthorn. Both very nice but I especially liked the Parsnip Brulee. The presentation on all of the dishes was beautiful.
We will have no hesitation in recommending you to our friends and family. Once again a huge thank you to all involved for a lovely night."

“Nice way to spend a Tuesday night”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 February 2012

Second time I have eaten at Wedgwood and it was as good as the first time. Went with a reasonably large party so as expected we got the long table downstairs. This is beside the cold room so a. It is a bit cold when the door is opened and b. there is a bit of traffic in and out which is a bit intrusive. However that is the only small negative.

Food was great. Scallops were mixed with an interesting vanilla sauce and the partridge was perfectly cooked. The potato wedge looked heavy but was very light and tasted great. Service was up to the standard for this restaurant and well paced to allow a rest and chat between courses.

Plan to go back soon with friends so that they can experience this very good restaurant.
