Description: Monteiths prides itself on using great quality ingredients that are locally sourced where possible. Provenance is hugely important and we work closely with our suppliers to ensure that our food comes from farm, to plate as quickly as possible. Although we frequently change our menu to reflect the changing seasons we also have a range of specials including dry aged fillet steaks and chateaubriand available. There is also a selection of seasonal dishes from the sea including fresh Scottish lobster and oysters. We also serve a wide range of hand crafted cocktails, beers & wines from around the world. Whether you're looking for lunch, dinner or drinks Monteiths on the Royal Mile is a must.

My wife and I, visiting Scotland for the Tattoo, fell upon this restaurant whilst looking for somewhere to eat. We hadn't booked but the waitress we spoke to was very accommodating and found us a table but warned us that she needed the table by a certain time for a booking. We accepted and were happy that we did. Scottish cuisine with a modern twist and it was superb. The service was excellent, the waitresses did the establishment proud. So much that we booked for the next night. I think that booking is a must so as not to be disappointed. This was a place to have good food in a relaxed atmosphere. A hidden gem.

A gem of a bar with the entrance on the Royal Mile, walk down the fairy light archway to a unique experience. We had lunch there great Steak & Burger small portion but very tasty. Great service, the water jug was flavoured with fruit & cucumber really nice quality touches. Fabulous cocktails could have stayed all afternoon. In fact after night time comedy show made our way back for more cocktails - brilliant bar man took the time to explain to a group about whiskeys, really made every customer feel special. Great bar, Great food, Great staff, Great atmosphere & Great decor. Give it a go!!

Needed a lunch spot when it started pouring on us. All the other restaurants along the royal mile were packed but we spotted the entrance to Monteiths and we're pleasantly surprised to find plenty of room. I had the burger and it was fantastic!

We loved our dinner at Monteith's! The ambiance was charming, very Scottish with a modern twist. The bartenders and waitress were lovely, and their recommendations were spot on. The service was a tad slow, but we appreciated not being rushed during the Festival. A peaceful delicious dinner. You must order the olives with your cocktails. And the desert was amazing, custard and raspberries, mmmm!

OK we did visit during the fringe...and it was busy! But on the basis of good reviews and booking weeks in advance we didn't expect: on entering with our 21 year old son and his girlfriend to be told "sorry you can't come in because this is a cocktail bar and you have to be over 18" Surely this greeting should have been " Hello, could we just check your ID? " after sorting thing out - we chose our meals and wine. They forgot to bring the wine... The food is lovely and portion size ok in general, but I do think that £7 for 4 x 1inch by half inch scraps of salmon a tad over priced!   The main courses were really nice (they forgot one of the 3 side vegetables so had to be reminded...). So now after a bad start and 2 x " I think you have forgotton.." afetr our long-planned and looked forward to special meal during the fringe...next time we will go have street food!
