Description: No expense has been spared on Edinburghs Living Room restaurant, one of a clutch of popular style bars lining George Street. The dcor has been described as "Manhattan loft with a colonial twist, a pretty fair description of the chic, upbeat, welcoming atmosphere at The Living Room. Theres a lot of stylish wood, substantial brown leather armchairs, potted plants and sophisticated lighting. A slick entrance bar, brought alive most evenings by one of a superb roster of resident jazz pianist performing on a white baby grand, leads to a cavernous dining space where the balance between comfort and style is reflected in The Living Room's modern European menu. It ranges from snacks, salads and roasts (Sundays only) to comfort food classics and more ambitious pasta, grill and seafood dishes. Edinburgh diners love the international wine list and the sexy cocktails and absolutely everyone praises the service to the skies.

“Poor food & after service”
Reviewed 5 May 2014 via mobile

Came here with a group of friends, the ambience was just right. The signature dish of Chateaubriand was little more than steak and chips (and a bad version at that). The Seafood Linguine had a total of 8 small pieces of seafood. We complained to the waiter who shrugged it off. We have also given an online complaint to which we have received no reply. Overpriced, poor food - would certainly not eat there again.

“Avoid if you have children!”
Reviewed 5 May 2014

The high chairs in this place are disgusting! Absolutely filthy and I've never come accross one like it in a restaurant ever before. The straps which were once white had gone black and the whole thing was covered in grime, right down to the feet. Must be bacteria ridden and unhygienic. No offer of highchair or childrens menus upon being seated and given our menus. We had to ask for both on more than one occasion. The staff were pretty miserable and unwelcoming and seemed totally unaware of our 3 children altogether. Not what we expected at all, particularly as the place is done to such a high standard and given it's location too. It's not easy to find places that really consider children and cater for all their needs and entertainment (Pizza Express do it well!) and so I can safely say we'll not be back. Children should be seen as just as important as the adults they are dining with.

“Hmmmmmmm”
Reviewed 3 May 2014 via mobile

Popped in for a nice afternoon cocktail due to the fact other bars were full. Initially pleased to find some seats available, but with hindsight I'm not surprised. Walked in and had to guess whether or not we had to be seated or order at the bar. We gambled and sat down only to realise that we had to order at the bar. I was ignored for a couple of minutes at an empty bar, then eventually served by a none too enthusiastic bar man. Ordered a mojito and a French martini. The martini was lovely but the bar man used his fingers to drop the raspberry into the glass. He then shook my mojito in its serving glass by holding it with his hands around the edge of the glass. The mojito, was not very exciting and I could not taste the mint. We were hoping to stay awhile but the sight of another bar man using his fingers to wipe froth off the edges of somebody else's coffee was, and not too mention his shouting for waitresses to pick up orders was enough to send us on our way.

“Super Cocktail Making!”
Reviewed 28 April 2014

We did the cocktail making class as an activity on a Hen Do. It was excellent, the staff were friendly and fun, we made a LOT of drinks, overall it thoroughly exceeded my expectations. We had a buffet menu which was great as we didn't want a sit down meal the food was really nice and just the right amount when we were starting a night out.

I would highly recommend as a great way to start a night in Edinburgh!!!

“Great place”
Reviewed 28 April 2014

Lovely food, wine and cocktails. We had a three course meal for 14.95 and the cocktails were half price so quality food at great price. Would definitely return.
