Did not disappoint. Mum's Deshi chicken was very tasty and generous. Enjoyed a Cobra from the Saintsbury's five minutes away.

Hello there

Thank you for your review, glad you enjoyed dining with us.

Mum's Deshi chicken is a good choice, as we have mum in the kitchen working tirelessly to create authentic Indian dishes from back home!

“Great Indian”
Reviewed 5 May 2014 via mobile

Really good North Indian/Bangladeshi restaurant.

The food is of a high standard. My on the bone chicken house curry was first class and all our other dishes were good to very good.

We got great service and although are mains were slightly slow coming staff kept us informed on progress and it was worth the wait.

Prices are perhaps a little on the high side which may be because they are making up for the profit they lose by not having a licence.

Diners are welcome to bring their own alcohol and there is no corkage charge.

“Great food”
Reviewed 3 May 2014

Walked in at 5pm on a Saturday, waiter said he needed the table for 6.30, which was fine by us. Bought our own wine, nice to get decent glasses to drink it from. Staff very friendly, nice simple elegant setting. Ordered 2 starters between three of us, 3 main courses, 2 rice and one absolutely amazing naan bread. Huge portions, really tasty food. Deshi khani was beautiful, I would describe it as Indian home cooking, total comfort food, really tasty. So much food we took enough home for lunch. Service was very good, didn't feel rushed at all. Good value at £50 for three people. The menu for big groups looked terrific and good value for money. Oh, and the mango sauce was amazing!

“It's got to be the best Indian in Edinburgh!”
Reviewed 30 April 2014

I booked for a group of 13 people last week. I had never been to the restaurant before and just really booked it off the back of trip advisor reviews and I tell you I could not be more pleased that I have.

They booked table for me against a small deposit (which is only fair). We ordered one of the group menus (thought it best that way to keep things simple for all attending).

Before we got to restaurant I went to get some wines and beers from a local store. When we arrived we were immediately seated on a nice table by the window. I like the decor of the place, nothing over the top, nothing too fancy, just clean and comfy setting, tables nicely set for the group and despite not having an alcohol licence, they still offer proper wine glasses for any wine you bring along ... and to top it all, they don't even charge corkage! Fantastic!

Now what about the food. FANTASTIC, simply put. Popadoms for starters, then we had plenty of starters to share. We went for option 2 on the menu (so you can see easily what these are on the website). No rush in between courses and the waitress - believe her name was Iona, was really on the ball with everything. When mains were served, my oh my what a fantastic choice of dishes. Everyone was raving about it and for £16.50 per head this is great food.

Will I go back. Absolutely! I cannot wait till the next night out in Edinburgh. Kismot will be a very good excuse to go back.

The chicken tikka that we ordered was simply delicious! But choose your spiciness level right (the medium level is already spicy enough!). Will visit Kismot again when we're back :)
