“Fantastic food - dietary needs catered for wonderfully!”
Reviewed 23 August 2014

Staff were wonderfully accommodating and allowed me to bring my own gluten free bread so I could have the delicious Mussels in White Wine Sauce. Wine and whiskey lists - wow! brilliant selection and reasonably priced. Be prepared to queue or book ahead. This place is always busy so you will need to plan ahead. Can't understand the bad reviews....all 4 of us were delighted and had a wonderful time.

“Disappointed given it's reputation”
Reviewed 22 August 2014 via mobile

We must have dined here on an "off" day with regard to service. And unfortunately the waiter did tell us at the end of our meal it was his first day. All for learning on the job but get the basics right please beforehand.
Three in our party and asked for water, which arrived for only 2 of us. Asked for another glass and was offered a latte coffee glass hot out the dishwasher. Waiter surprised when we asked for a water glass the same as the others. When giving our order he was questioned the choice of one of our party and mentioned that it was a large helping and was it only for one...it was. No mistake on our part had been made. Menu stated clearly main course for one. This was quite rude and quite embarrassing for our guest who felt they were appearing to be greedy.
Asked for salad for table to share. A small side dish arrived, what I would have expected for one person. On pointing this out our waiter admitted his mistake and asked did we really want to change it - aagh
Had to ask for cutlery some pieces missing from table - again surprise that we didn't have what we needed as if it was our fault.
Ordered surf and turf - not asked how we wished steak cooked and had to remind the waiter he had not checked this with us- again surprise
Food arrived and despite let down in service we did enjoy it, although - and we should have read the menu more thoroughly the surf and turf is served in a mussel pot. This means you have quite delicious seafood in a sauce at the bottom of the pot with your steak lying on top. Not easy to eat and meant as you ate the seafood your steak started to float in the sauce. Perhaps a rethink on presentation for this. Not be rushing back.

“First time to Edinburgh - Great Food and better value for money!”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

Four of us visited on Tuesday for a late lunch and took advantage of the 2 course lunch menu for £9.95. We sat outside, initially, and this was a little shabby but when it rained moved inside, with the staff helping us. What a lovely interior and spotless loos!

The food was remarkably good and we all thought the best value for the trip. My friends had startes of smoked salmon and new potatoes, very good, and haggis wellington (wish i had a starter!).

Main course was the seafood stew for 2 people and mussels in whisky, bacon and cream. Very good. Choice of chips in Oil or Lard so very helpful. I finished off with the Baileys cheesecake. The house red was enjoyable and it was good service at a very busy time of the year!

Well done - certainly recommend it!

“New Restaurant in Jeffrey St, just off the Royal Mile”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

Went for lunch. Tried the mussels, the steak, the chips and the house white. All great. And less than £40 for two: starter and main courses, pre lunch drink, bottle of wine and two coffees. The only reason we didn't try pudding was our lack of time. The ambience is lovely. But the staff even better. Really professional but friendly and helpful with it. We will definitely revisit. The food was nicely conceived, well cooked and presented. Could not fault it and we are picky. The staff were there when needed but not standing over us. One of the nicest lunches out and to get this in Edinburgh during the Festival was great.

“Great find”
Reviewed 21 August 2014

An oasis away from the mad house. First time to scotland and I decided for my birthday to visit Edinburgh. After walking around for an hour looking for somewhere to cater for 5 adults and 3 children we found this place. What a great find. The waitress was very helpful and friendly. The food was fresh and the portions size was brilliant. The children all had fresh pasta in sauce followed by homemade ice cream which was to die for and went down a treat. The adult meals again were faultless. All in all a good fresh, well priced meal.
