This is my second visit to this lovely, friendly and well presented attraction. It's located just nest to modern appurtenant buildings hiding inside a magnificent garden with ponds, and a lot of green areas to relax and walk around in.
The house itself is a museum, as well as Falkirk archives. There is a hidden surprise in the local Kitchen when you do the walk around in the 3 floors. The place is telling the story of the area form old times to more recent times. There is an art gallery as well, and today we encountered a new exhibition of accessories in another part of the house. There is a lift on premiss, lovely friendly staff, a gift shop .A must !Free parking. Free Entrance. Enjoy. I am sure you will.

Callendar House is in Callendar Park just a few minutes walk from Falkirk town centre. The House has a fascinating history going back hundreds of years. It is actually a 14th-century tower house. It has been visited by many historical figures, including Mary, Queen of Scots, Oliver Cromwell, Bonnie Prince Charlie and Queen Victoria. It was used as a headquarters by Oliver Cromwell when he invaded Scotland. There is also a history research centre, containing all of Falkirk's historical archives in the Victorian oak-panelled library.
There is a fully working Georgian kitchen, with a huge open fire. Staff in period costumes prepare food from the Georgian period.
The grounds of the house contain a pitch and putt course, crazy golf, a children's adventure playground , a boating lake , which is often home to swans in the summer and the Antonine Wall. There is also a contemporary art gallery, the Park Gallery which has a growing reputation for its exhibitions . Callendar Estate extends to 500 acres and is open for walks through the woodland

A number of events have been held in the grounds throughout the year, including the annual fireworks display. A music festival , Big in Falkirk , was held for a number of years in the park in front of the house. The House is a great place to visit for art and history buffs or families
