This has to be seen to be believed. Awesome! Spend some time and watch the boats being lifted. You can do a canal boat tour from here.

Awesome, especially as it was the first time in a canal boat. Fantastic piece of engineering. A definite must for a bucket list.

The wheel is fascinating to watch in operation. There is the usual gift shop and cafe and pleasant walks around the site. In addition one can take a ridge in a barge into the wheel and get hoisted up to the upper canal for a short boat ride.

The world's only canal wheel. The tour involves a ~50 min boat tour of this impressive feat of engineering, built as part of the restoration of Scotland's great east to west lowland canal system. The tour provides lots of info on the wheel, including the Archimedes principal in which it works. Impressive views from the top,. Ideally for good weather but don't let rain put you off as the boat has a roof
