“Recommend if you are looking for good service and value for money.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 May 2014

As a business women it is always tough living away weekly from your family....
I having been now living away from home for almost 4 months . Staying throughout this time at the Antonine Hotel. I have found all the staff to be consistently supportive and friendly. (I recall one day I felt unwell and stayed in bed, only to find extra towels and a fan heater placed outside my door). This hotel is affordable, friendly and clean. The meals are of a very good standard. The staff team work together to provide the best possible service to their guests. This hotel is central, welcoming and provides a comfortable and relaxing environment in which to stay. The owners have gone out of their way to ensure I have always been booked into the same room throughout my stay the room is always clean, comfortable and quiet. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel...yes there is a few stairs to climb to access rooms but the value for money and great service far outweighs this minor problem...would I come Back? YES without hesitation!!!.........

Room Tip: first floor rooms appear to have less issues with hot water. The Antonine is a big building and plum...

Avoid this place. Check in, no ones there!! it's staffed by the bar staff next door, when they have finished serving drinks they will get round to you. The walk to the room was via the wet floor and the bucket collecting rain water in the corridor. The room was ok if you ignore the mould around the bath that was screaming out for a wipe with bleach. The heating was on late evening when we arrived and the not present again until the following evening. The extra quilt in the room was not fit for purpose, worn to excess and grubby. Getting back into the hotel on the Saturday night would have been a joke if it wasn't true. 50th birthday party ends at 01.15, back the the hotel front (and only door) at 01.25... It's locked and the bar next door is also locked. Banged on all the windows jumped up and down under the CCTV but to no avail. A walk up the height street to call them from a phone box as the mobiles are in the room. No answer after 4 times of ringing until the phone disconnected. A walk back to the hotel and more door banging this time with the intention of setting off the alarms. No answer. 02.00 in the morning cold and wet as it was blowing a gale, I'm back to the phone box calling round Falkirk looking for another hotel, partner in tow who's now crying. Found a room at another hotel the other side of town. 02.20 and I'm checked in after standing in the rain at a taxi rank waiting for a cab. In the morning it's back to the hotel to vent my previous night's experience. I'm shown a text by a lady who says she sent it to the night guy.... "Look out for a couple coming back in a taxi about 01.00 - 01.30". Seems the night guy either didn't get it or couldn't be bothered to wait. Back in the room and to round it all off it's just as well we didn't sleep in the room as above the bed the leaking roof issue had found its way to the bedroom and water had dripped in the night above and on to the bed. I will never ever, ever stay here again, I'd rather sleep in my car.

The hotel is very cheap and for this money you can get big clean , warm ,peaceful rooms, friendly lovely stuff, ready to help you and a central spot, 20 meters away from shopping center, cafes restaurants, bus station, also 150 meter from train station(Falkirk is 30 min away fro Glasgow and 30 min away from Edinburgh).
If I had chance I would stay there again..I have had lovely time there and in Falkirk.

Room Tip: there are plenty of rooms

My company booked me into this hotel for one night as I got delayed on a job. The place itself is in a good position, in the centre of town. It as a small private car park outside. The main problem started when after I booked in. You have 3 flights of stairs to the floor where the lift starts to the bedroom`s. The room was tired but suitable for 2 people. I found the shower cold, It would not get warm even after I ran it a while. I did not report it though. The TV was dated and had a separate box to make it work, You could not get many channels. The breakfast was my main concern, I did not enjoy it. Their was a choice of tomatoes, beans, bacon, sausage. haggis and scrambled eggs. It was all hot and fresh. A good choice of cereals, tea, coffee and juice. The staff were friendly, The place was clean. The place is good for conferences. Their is also a cafe bar on site. Plenty of shops around and sites to visit.

Room Tip: No problems with traffic noise as the hotel starts well above that level. There is a good view from...

I attended my daughter’s wedding at the Antonine Hotel in August 2012, and it had both good and bad points. I know this is a lengthy review, but I feel both good and bad points need to be highlighted.

John and Elizabeth (the owners) were extremely helpful during the planning stages, and bent over backwards to accommodate the requests, including allowing access to the service lift for disabled guests and providing some materials to help decorate the hall for the reception. Set-up for the daytime reception with large round tables was ideal. The bride negotiated a custom package price, which was reasonable, and allegedly included a double room for the bride and groom BUT: although this was confirmed by a phone call to the owner (Elizabeth) 3 weeks before the wedding; they were charged as they left, £60 for a room that was essentially shabby, stuffy and sub-standard - the charge didn’t even include breakfast! If they had known they would be charged, they would have got a taxi home instead, for much less money!

The evening reception room was meant to seat 80; we struggled to get 50 in, with the tables so close together there wasn’t room to breathe, and nobody bigger than a size 10 could sit on the inside seats! The ‘overspill’ guests had to sit in the bar next door, which was very nice, cosy and intimate with a giant fan to keep the air circulating (it was very hot). There was a larger reception room upstairs which would have been ideal for us but there was a staff party booked which only around 30 people seemed to attend; it would have made more business sense to move the staff party (lower priority) to the smaller room and give the wedding party the larger of the rooms.

The bar was well stocked with spirits and bottled beer, and prices were commensurate with other hotels in the area, but it did not stock any draft beer or lager which was not communicated to us in advance, so many of the guests had to go downstairs to the rather rough bar to get their drinks. Due to the many stairs involved several of the guests had difficulty transporting their drinks back up to the wedding reception. At 11pm the guests were told they couldn’t take any more drinks upstairs and they had to either drink them in the bar, or do without draft beer. We found out later that there was another bar upstairs where staff could have got access to draft beer, but we were never told about this.

Although comfortable, the seats were mismatched, with a selection of blue, red and (bizarrely) zebra striped patterns! We didn’t have chair covers, only bows for the chair backs, so the different colours/patterns were obvious and the zebra striped chairs weren’t shown to us in advance, they just appeared on the day.

The food was lovely both daytime and evening, very well prepared and presented, plenty of it to go around, and the offer of more if required. Catering staff provided for all dietary needs, including diabetic, coeliac and vegetarian; there was plenty of choice for all.

All of the staff were friendly, helpful and pleasant; the catering staff in particular made a good impression by coming out and speaking to the organisers to make sure they were happy with everything, and to find out if there was anything else they could do. Bar staff were friendly and efficient, even when the queue at the bar was 3-4 deep.

The deejay was fantastic, good music and read his audience well; the dance floor was never empty and he kept the party going well into the night. Unfortunately, halfway through the night, the fire alarm went off – apparently this was caused by a smoke machine in operation downstairs in the bar. This was a bit of a mood killer, and using a smoke machine that would set off the alarm was a bit of stupid.

All in all, I would say that the Antonine Hotel could be a good wedding venue if they could iron out some of their issues; however I would advise that you get everything in writing from them, details of what is included in the price, so there are no misunderstandings. Also, there is NO WAY that the small back reception room can seat 80, unless you have no dance-floor. This is a tight squeeze for 50 people; it would have been more sensible to give us the bigger room which was reserved for a poorly-attended staff party. If we’d had the bigger room, we would definitely return to this venue; as it stands, we will probably not use it again.
