“Loved the Food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 December 2007

We have just returned from a 4 day Christmas stay at this hotel. The staff are very friendly and courteous. Hotel very clean and very clean bedroom and bathroom. The rooms have trouser press, tea and coffee (which is replaced every day), iron and ironing board, hairdrier, television, very comfortable beds. The room is very warm. Bathrooms are quite a good size, with very powerful showers over the bath. Also a retractable clothesline. The food was excellent, plenty of it and piping hot. Nothing was to much of a bother. The only complaint we had was too much food, you never had time to be hungry.

I booked this hotel as i needed to get up to Edinburgh to see friends and couldn't find any accommodation there at all.
On the outskirts of town, this is very much a motel, a driver's hotel which had the convenience of a travelodge but with the friendliness of a small hotel.

Although Edinburgh looks close on the map, it is far from convenient and the roadworks on the Edinburgh side of the Firth of Forth make it almost an hour by car to the 'New' town off Princes Street. I don't know how long these works will take but a bus to Dunfermline train station and then a quick train would be better.

Whilst the long dark corridors reminded me of a hall of residence insider the ground floor room was brighter and the bathroom in particular was very clean and spacious. The staff were very friendly. Although there is no mini-bar room service operates 24 hours and there was free wireless connection to the internet.

The King Malcolm is easy to find coming from the Forth Road Bridge, although I struggled using the hotel's directions from Dunfermline town centre. It is worth printing off a small scale map, as Dunfermline has many roundabouts.

I would definitely stay here again if en route up to the north of Scotland. Dunfermline is a pretty place, and the Asda down the road is also handy! I wouldn't use it as a base for Edinburgh unless i was not planning to spend my evenings in the capital.

  • Liked — Friendly Staff
  • Disliked — Not as convenient for Edinburgh as map suggests

I stayed at this hotel for twelve nights, 4-15 jun. This was booked through and by my employers otherwise i would not have stayed for the full twelve days. To say i am disappointed is an understatement. Whilst the hotel appears modern and in good repair appearances can be, as in this case, deceptive. I found it to be tired and worn and in need of renovation/repair. For example, the breakfast room had an infestation of ants and the roof in the dining leaked profusely! During the one morning in which it rained, buckets were placed in the dining room to collect the water which was dripping from the light fittngs! The doors in the corridors banged as they were shut and the walls are so thin you can hear the quietest conversation ( amongst other things) as you walk the corridors. I really do not appreciate being woken most morning by my neighbour ablutions. The staff on the whole were helpful and courteous however, there were several occasion where ignorance and discourtesy were shown. There was another group staying at the hotel and i felt that all the staff priority was concerning there welfare. This was made more apparent when, in the middle of taking my food order, the bar staff asked me to wait while he not only went to see the person who was gesticulating wildly ( her bread had not yet arrived!) but then proceded to go and get the bread and then serve a local who came to the bar before finally finishing taking my order. The following morning we were turned away from breakfast as a coach load of visitors were having breafast and despite there being at least twelve places free we were asked to give them 10 minutes before we could be seated. This was no good to us as we had an hour journey to work and would possibly make us late. I can honestly say i felt like i was intruding during the last 4-5 days of my stay. i would like to say that the hotel was clean and the cleaning staff were very capable and extremely pleasant. The food was also of a very good standard.

Outside the Hotel was clean. Staff were very frendly. Room I was in with my girlfriend was good and clean and had TV and a clean bathrom. Breakfast was great and so was the evening meal. The Bar in the Hotel was nice. You are only a 10min bus ride away from Dunfermline town centre and the bus passes the hotel evetry 15mins. Car park is ok but could be better.
