Not very often you get to stay at a hotel with Malcolm in the name...in what was the capital of Scotland many centuries ago...I was up there on work and had failed to book a travelodge so this venue proved perfect and easy to find...staff were friendly...the room was tidy and the breakfast was excellent (so important!) ...overall good value and definitely worth recommending

The hotel is spotlessly clean with excellent staff and is in a good location. I am a very fussy eater, but the staff there went out of their way to make sure I was catered for and they even did it with a smile!
I would definitely recommend this hotel and would return in there anytime.
I can't understand what people can find to complain about - its a great hotel.

I had the good fortune to find this Hotel on LateRooms.com. My reason was needing somewhere close to where I would be working that week.
It may look dated but it is fit for purpose, the room was fine, bed very comfortable and food amazing value.
The room had a radiator for heating that took a while to heat, but leaving it on after the first evening I had no complaints. The porcelain loo had a crack, but didn't leak and a wall mounted fan heater if you were too cold in there. I Wasn't.
The food, well the bar/room menu offered a lot of variety at great prices. Too cheap to be good? Not likely, the choice was varied and tasty. I also took the odd main course off the al a carte menu and whilst more expensive, those dishes were still good value and taste bud ticklers.
The Hotel was very quiet during my week there. If asked "would you book again?" i'd say YES, YES, YES!

stayed here for the 6 nations wales v scotland and had a lovely stay. nice warm pleasant rooms well equipped. hotel bar next to hotel, good atmosphere friendly staff. breakfast was lovely although a bit shambolic as things not cooked on time no toast no glasses for juice. staff need to be well organised at meal times. room service menu clearly states 24 hr sandwiches, few guests were disgusted at the attitude of staff when they wanted a few sandwiches late evening. personally i liked the hotel and would definately return.

I would rate this place beyond terrible!

Was at a family funeral and just after sitting down had a member of staff (small older woman with blondish hair) harassing us....she had no manners what so ever. She wanted us to move because that table wasnt set up but there were no other tables left...she was not happy at this! I think she would of preferred us to stand. She then went and tried to get other family members to move as well who were sitting at another table that wasnt set up but there were no other tables left...we explained we were quite a large family so wouldnt all fit at the table that was reserved for family but she didnt seem to take any of it in. All she had to do was use her eyes to see there were no tables left!!! We eventually had some plates and cups thrown down in front of us!She just kept appearing and telling us stuff that we really shouldnt of had to deal with..there was no professionalism at all. This was the most disgusting behaviour i have ever witnessed in a hotel. I really think this woman should be reprimanded for her shocking behaviour but i cannot imagine that the hotel probably care's that much to do anything about her.

The food was also terrible...cheap rubbish sandwiches and the odd sausage roll! If this is what they usually do then i am seriously appalled....they are really taking advantage of people and ripping them off! Cos for what you pay it is ridiculous.

As another family member stated in a review below there was one nice girl, with dark hair (i thought her name was Alison but i could be wrong) she was very pleasant, and helpful.

I will never be back to this hotel!

Went here for my grandads funeral tea, appalled. Service was disgusting, staff with the exception of one (nice young girl) was terrible. Older waitress had a disgusting manner telling family there wasn't enough food and they would need to make more. Insulted grandchildren, asking us to move a space for her and getting angry as we Hadn't moved a space Quick enough. You'd think they were paying us to be there. Notes on our car to say only patrons can park. Embarrassing for all guests at such an upsetting time.

Overnight stay. Rooms spotless and a nice standard.
Sadly, customer service lacking in most respects. Female reception staff incredibly rude when asked for additional t.bags (as though I was interrupting their private leisure time).
This was surpassed by the harriden at the breakfast dining 'experience'.
'Ordered' to fill up existing seats at tables, despite being in a family group!
A snarl...not a smile to greet customers, rudely told not to sit at the unlaid table but at other seats only.
The breakfast had been advertised as full Scottish breakfast...pardon!...no porridge available...1 fried egg, 1 rasher bacon, spoonful of mushrooms, half a tomato and scrambled egg. a male in our party stared at the small plated breakfast in astonishment!
However, the young male serving in the hotel bar was really friendly and helpful, well done.
Suffice to say we cheered as we left the 'prison camp experience', the female staff are surly and 'best their sell-by- date.
