I was very pleased with the friendly staff at this hotel, decor was a bit tired but the room was very comfortable and well worth the money ,breakfast was good as well, the pub downstairs is also very nice .

Arriving at this hotel, it is what you expect: a fairly traditional scottish-style hotel - lots of wood panelling, the front of the hotel is street-lined with a car park to the side. We were a group of nine people who had all booked separately - using either online booking or over the phone. The prices were good and the other reviews favourable. The welcome was good and the hotel were even able to offer bike storage, despite having said previously that they couldn't. I'm not sure if they know they are on a prominent National Cycle Route 1/766.
The rooms are well quite well appointed, but not extravagant, but at this price point (£20-25pp for B&B), you get decent value for money. The hotel seems to be the social hub of the village of Markinch, which is actually a mile or two outside of Glenrothes proper. The owners were welcoming, which says a lot, as after a day on the bike we all look like we've been dragged through a hedge backwards - not the kind of image some hotels want their guests to project!
The bar and the restaurant are comfortable and we used both during our stay. We were told the hotel is known for its food and we weren't disappointed. It seemed to be largely home made and decent portions which makes a change to many other establishments these days. The main courses were reasonably priced (£7-10 for most mains - £16 for steak)
After dinner we stayed in the bar for further liquid refreshments and the placed filled up with locals - including lots of pretty girls and people who were dressed up. There was live music in the bar, and a function on in the next door room, so the place was buzzing.
We went to bed about midnight and the music continued downstairs, but to be fair you could only just hear it upstairs in the rooms. Beds were comfortable in our room and I heard no complaints from the rest of our group. In the morning, the cooked breakfast was nicely cooked (nothing like travelodge mass cooking and rubbery bacon!) and the staff were again attentive. They wished us well on departure, and on the whole the visit was a positive experience.

Overall I would recommend this hotel. Great welcome, good food, drink, lively place. Nothing really negative to say. The rooms were decent enough, clean, etc. but on the basic side.

Room Tip: All the rooms seem to have a different combination of bed types and some have baths and showers wher...

When we arrived at the Laurel hank hotel for our booked meal we had to push our way through a entrance of cigarette smoke not a good start. The bar/dining room seemed busy after asking where our table was we sat down. The menu looked as if it was bar food. After ordering our meal our starters arrived, the only food that was good was the soup.My wife had creamy garlic mushrooms and garlic breadThe hot mushrooms came on top of lettuce the garlic bread was burnt black. The food went downhill from here. This will be our last time we will eat here. The meal was the worst we have ever had.

It isn't a hotel. It's a pub with bedrooms. Squeaky laminate floor, stained bed sheet, torn wallpaper. Bathroom was lovely and modern though.

We were not impressed. The staff didn't have a clue about when we had to check out by, we waited ages for breakfast to be served, there isn't even a check in desk. Must admit it's been one if my worse visits to a hotel before so can't say much good about it really.

My Husband and i booked our wedding at the Laurel Bank in Jan 2013, from Feb 2014 to May 2014 the hotel had changed hands 3 times! you can imagine our utter despair that 7 days prior to our wedding we received a phone call from the previous manager to say that it had changed hands and that our wedding 'should' be ok !!!!! Having had a few choice words with her i demanded that she contact the new management team and they contact me immediately!!! I received a phone call from a gentleman (Neil Ogston) shortly afterwords. At this point Neil reassured us on the telephone that all would be ok!!!!! On the run up to our wedding and on the day Neil and his staff bent over backwards to ensure perfection for us.... there are no words in the dictionary that can adequately thank Neil and the staff at the hotel for the phenomenal service they delivered!!!! The ceremony was perfect, the decor was perfect, the food was to die for (even managed to get the secret steak pie recipe from Neil) everything was just perfect!!! All of our guests (and we had approx 140) commented on the meal the buffet the service, everyone was full of praise for Neil and the Staff!!!! An excellent day/night was had by all !!!!!!! My husband and i stayed over in the honeymoon suite and the room was beautiful, very comfortable, very clean; we have absolutely no complaints . I am unable to comment on the breakfast in the morning due to Neil leaving a courtesy bottle of champagne in our room for us i slept through breakfast but i do have it on good authority that it was delish!!!! Thank you thank you thank you to Neil and his staff, i would highly recommend the hotel to anyone and i hope that some of my guests leave some positive feedback too xx

We recently stayed here while at a wedding nearby. Our quad room was a great size and really modern and clean. The breakfast in the morning was just what we were looking for and was great value for the price we had paid for 3 adults. The hotel were very accommodating when a double booking had occurred due to a mix up with our booking agent and provided a full refund for the double booking. We would definitely recommend the hotel - it was just what we were looking for.
