“Amazing!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 April 2008

When I started employment with Aldi, I had to train for 6 months in Kircaldy. Aldi had booked me into the Victoria for my stay over the next few months and I must say that they could not have picked a better hotel!
I cannot fault the place at all. The rooms are clean and fresh, the staff are brilliant (I became good pals with them, an ace bunch), and the food is to die for. A few dishes that come to mind is the chicken stuffed with black pudding served with mash, greens and drambuie sauce, homemade chicken soup and the cooked breakfast is one of a kind! The chef is really something!
The atmosphere is so warm and friendly that I really looked forward to my stay each week. I made friends with alot of the staff members and the regular familiar faces in the bar each night. These friendly regulars were great and just added to the relaxing, warm and welcoming feel to the cozy bar even though I thought they were part of the fixtures and fittings hahaha!!!

I will finish by saying the victoria hotel deserves a 10 out of 10 in all areas and hope i'll be staying again in the near future.

  • Liked — The food, friendliness and the railway line in the distance from my window as it reminded me of home
  • Disliked — The club/bar next door to the hotel

stayed between christmas and new year, good family owned hotel, great service, we had a lovely room room 6, food good if not stuck in the 70s as far as menu is concerned but obviously no need to change as the place is continually booked out for all meals and functions so if you want a piece of nostalga in a beautifull period property in fife you could not pick better , great for what the scottish call high teas served between five and severn pm, main meal served with toast ,cakes, scones and a great pot of tea, ah!!!!

I have stayed at the Victoria several times when in Scotland on business. My first stay I was put there as one of the larger chain hotels had no room. To be honest I was a bit miffed at first, however once settled into my room I changed my mind.
When I returned a couple of months later I requested to be put back in the Victoria as my stay has been so pleasurable. I did this for the next 2 years while my job took me to Scotland 3 times a year.

Comfortable well equiped rooms ( I usually got the same one) and an excellent breakfast. Friendly staff and always a warm welcome at a very good price.

We came to Kirkcaldy for a short midweek stay and are determined to come back to the Victoria Hotel at a later date for a longer one.

The Victoria is a smallish, comfortable hotel a short walk (ten minutes or so) from Kirkcaldy town center and the Kirkcaldy beach promenade. Rooms are small but comfortable. The hotel staff are extremely courteous and helpful. The food in the hotel is excellent: dinner there was surprisingly high-end for a place with such an old-fashioned feel, and the service was terrific. Breakfasts are generous, and "cooked" breakfasts featuring black pudding and haggis (if you really want them!) are included in the room rate. The hotel takes all the usual credit and debit cards (particularly Maestro, which is becoming increasingly useful for international travel). Meals and snacks are also served in the hotel bar.

Please note that because of its lack of elevators / lifts, and stairs to be climbed, this hotel isn't suitable for people in wheelchairs or with other similar physical-accessibility issues.

Something special to note: The Victoria Hotel was built by furniture-maker A. H. Macintosh for his family, who lived there from the 1860s until the 1940s. The public rooms of the hotel are full of beautiful examples of his (or his workmen's) carving, mostly done in golden oak, with every design unique. You can spend entirely too much time just staring at all this carved wood and wondering at the workmanship... You can see a Flickr photoset of some of the woodwork, stained glass, and other details here: -----------

Anyone looking for a comfortable base in Kirkcaldy should consider the Victoria Hotel. It is well-located about ten minutes' walk from the town centre and such attractions as the Adam Smith Theatre. It's easy to find when arriving by road or rail and there's ample car parking at the rear.

It's an old building, once a large private home, and it retains many original features. The rooms are comfortable (if a little on the warm side during my stay) and clean. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Dinner and breakfast in the restaurant were good and service was excellent. It is very good value; if located in more popular tourist areas these rooms would command a price at least 50% higher. All in all, it can be safely recommended.
