My husband and I went to Fairmont for overnight stay for my birthday. We enjoyed the Room. We had dinner in the Squire restaurant the starter was good but we both chose roast beef for main and were disappointed as the meat was very tough. When asked if meal ok we said meat tough. They offered replacement or they would not charge for desert. We found this very disappointing. Breakfast was good.

We stayed in the Hotel on a DBB deal, see separate review, and ate breakfast and most dinners in The Squire restaurant which is situated in a vast open triple height barn-like area.

Breakfast consisted of the usual hot dishes, but there was limited choice of cold dishes. We overheard several tables complaining of delays in staff service of tea/coffee/toast. We also encountered this problem.

In the evenings The squire had fewer customers than at breakfast and the service was better. We found the set menu included in our deal to have good choices, good value, cooking and presentation. The wine choices were good quality and reasonable value.

We also tried the two AA rosette gourmet restaurant 'Esperante' on one evening, see separate review. Our package entitled us to a credit against the higher cost meals here. We enjoyed the different choices and food on offer here, and thought it a good experience overall, and worthwhile if you are prepared to pay the supplement.

I went with friends today to the Clubhouse at the Fairmont expecting to enjoy their usual delicious
fish and chips. What a disappointment! Instead of fresh fish in a crispy golden batter, what we got was elongated fish fingers, luke warm chips all served on a spectacularly cold plate. At £15 a head, it was awful As my friends were paying, I did not want to make a fuss, but had I been with family, I would certainly have complained. I did ask if we could have had the fish deep fried in batter but was informed it had been crumbed and then deep fried. This was nonsense. It had indeed been crumbed, but then it had been frozen and deep fried only to cook it. Noy good enough, Fairmont! Won't be back.

We ate at the Clubhouse during our stay at the Fairmont - which felt a lot more intimate than the main hotel restaurants. The setting overlooking the water was beautiful with the doors opening up to allow you a stroll in the setting sun before we ate. The food itself was pretty good - nothing mind blowing but certainly worthy of a good night out.
