What a little nugget of a place! My husband and I were up staying in St Andrews on the weekend for a wedding and were recommended this lovely establishment as a place to stay. From the minute we arrived, Fraser was the ultimate concierge providing advice from parking advice to late night food options (a MUST having enjoyed the delights of the bar all evening!). Rory too was a star although he is completely to blame hereon in for me NEVER drinking PIMMS anywhere else again having sampled (a few times, I hasten to add) his MARVELOUS PIMMS. Would take the trip back up there just for that. :)

All the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, but I absolutely HAVE to mention Hazel and Ceirin for their unending enthusiasm and energy. At around 11pm, on our way home from the wedding we had attended, my husband and I met with these two ladies who we knew had been working ALL day as we had seen them when we left just before lunchtime. As they spotted us before we them, they could have easily slipped quietly by on the other side of the road to get home quicker and put their feet up for a well-deserved rest. But they didn't. They came bounding over the road to come and say hi and check that we'd had a good day and have a little natter before they headed home. Genuinely priceless! Like I said, ALL the team were outstanding - I hope the owner appreciates what a stellar lot they are.

But it wasn't just the people who made the stay so great. The cooked breakfast was quite frankly second to none and, like the aforementioned PIMMS, all others will now pale in comparison. The room was modern, clean and well-provisioned and the whole place just a little delight. Given that my husband and I live in Italy, it's a long way to come, but we're already discussing when we can make the visit again to enjoy their hospitality.

Looking for a last minute break in St Andrews chose West Port on basis of previous Trip Advisor reviews - and were not disappointed. Okay, it's not in the most beautiful part of town - but is well within walking distance of everything. The room (No 3) was a good size and was spotlessly clean. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. Only ate breakfast in the Hotel and it was really good both days. Long stay parking within easy walking distance. Would have no hesitation in recommending to anyone.

We stayed for one night in St Andrews for a friend's wedding. We arrived early for check in and the team stowed our bags and offered for us to get ready in the bar (bathrooms). We checked in later and were shown our room and the key system explained.

We came back from the wedding at about 12.30am and were worried that the bar would keep us awake but at 12.45 everyone was gone and it was silent! We had a large room on floor directly above the bar. Large bathroom.

Came down for breakfast to find all the Sunday papers laid out and a great selection of options. Great coffee and lovely service (tentative to the hungover!). I had French Toast and other half had perfectly poached eggs. Full Scottish available though!

We parked about 5 minutes walk away in a free public car park. Great location for exploring St Andrews.

Room Tip: As its above a pub, go to bed after closing or ask for a room higher up.

Stayed there for two nights for a wedding nearby. Bar was busy & friendly enough. Food was ok, if not a little overpriced. Service was good and staff polite and helpful. Problems were that we were put in one of the attic rooms at the top of quite a steep staircase. Room was very small and very basic. Bed was a disgrace, two single beds attached together with an uncomfortable gap between the beds and this led to a poor sleep. TV was the smallest I've ever seen in any hotel room and I've stayed in many!! For £99 per night, it's definitely very poor value. Would not go back nor recommend it. Sorry, but what a let down!!

Hello Jim

I am sorry that you were not happy with your room, the bed nor the price. If you can find somewhere in St Andrews offering better facilities for a better price than I will be most interested in hearing about them as we are by far the best in town.

Regards
Jim

We booked all 4 rooms for 3 nights from 30th April for a golf trip and took the girls along. We were warmly welcomed by Frazier who explained everything we needed to know. The rooms are excellent a good size, well laid out and very clean. They were cleaned every morning and the consumables replenished. The breakfast can only be descibed as fabulous both food and service.

The bar has a great buzz in the evening when we returned from golf and a great place to unwind.

The West Port is excellent value for money, has great staff and a central location with free parking outside (after 5pm).

You could pay a lot more money in St Andrews and not reach these standards.

Only issue a squeaky floor board in room 3.

Room Tip: First Floor Rooms 1 & 2, same size can here the bar slightly if you go to bed early Second Floor Rooms 3 & 4, Room 3 same as 1 & 2 Room 4 is smaller these rooms are quieter
