“Very Comfortable”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 August 2013

We had just booked in for one night with Bill and his wife which was unfortunate. They are a lovely, friendly couple who seem to enjoy what they do. Our room was comfortable with a decent en-suite, a mini kitchen and a comfortable conservatory with chesterfield and T.V. A great place to relax. The home is in what could almost be described as a rural location and yet within a 15 minute walking distance to the heart of St. Andrews......the walk being along the beach!! Bill gave us excellent suggestions as to dining spots in town which we took advantage of. Breakfast was tasty and entertaining. As mentioned by others, the kitchen is close at hand and conversations over breakfast include Bill and his wife......we loved it!! Well worth visiting if you enjoy friendly hosts. Only suggestion.....get good directions, it's a little difficult to find (even with a GPS)

stayed here for 2 nights at the end of july. the b and b is in a very quiet yet convenient location. I was welcomed by Bill the owner, who was very friendly and helpful. the room was large, and well furnished. it had a double and a single bed, and a good sized en-suite. it had a mini bar fridge - presumably for my own purchases - and plenty of tea, coffee, and biscuits. the en-suite was well appointed, and the shower quite powerful. it was very quiet and peaceful. bill gave me a brief guide to the pubs and eateries of st Andrews. it was a pleasant stroll along the beach into town - no more than 10-15 minutes. breakfast was excellent - a small buffet of sausage, bacon, tomatoe, mushroom, with eggs to order, fried bread and potatoe cake. in addition there was unlimited cereals, yoghurts, fresh fruit, tea and coffee.
it was a very pleasant stay in a very comfortable b and b and I would recommend this place to anyone.

We enjoyed our stay here and found the owners very friendly. We had the upstairs room which was very large with a luxurious large en-suite bathroom. It was perfectly clean and well appointed. Breakfast is served to order in the dining room with the hosts chatting as they cooked for us. This set up felt more like being a family visitor that a guest. we liked it but it might not suit everyone. The house is a little way outside town but it is walkable and it is very quiet and peaceful.

Room Tip: The upstairs room was great and had a terrific bathroom

We stayed in a few different places as we walked up the Fife Coastal Path, and compared to other accommodation I would say this is probably more of a 2 star (but then it was also the cheapest). It is in a great location for the beach, and you can walk easily into town (even though another reviewer suggests a car). We were in a twin room with a kitchen (with bottles of water provided which was a nice touch) and a lounge area. I suppose other B&B owners would call it a 'suite', but as previously mentioned by others, the décor and furnishings made it feel a bit more 2 star. The full cooked breakfast was good and if you enjoy a chat with your hosts you will like St Nicholas Farmhouse. Unfortunately we found our host a little too opinionated for a breakfast conversation.

It is situated on the east sands of st. andrews and you need a car to go to the city centre. The room was a little bit older furnished but was comfortable and it was almost a flat. It included a living room and a little kitchen with a fridge and a microwave. The breakfast was a full scottish one and you could help yourself to as much as you liked.

We stayed at a number of hotels, B&B’s and Self-catering Cottages during our six week visit to the UK. We looked forward to our last number of days in the UK in St Andrews as we were also attending a conference at the University of St Andrews. Unfortunately, for all the good ratings it got, St Nicholas Farmhouse was a big disappointment for us.
Everywhere we’ve stayed, we were surprised at the extent to which our hosts have gone to make us feel welcome and at home. We were also impressed with the fact that everything was meticulously clean and tidy.
Firstly, I can't say that our host made us feel welcome as she was going on about how busy she is and that she is only working part-time at St Nicholas Farmhouse.
Our first experience, walking into the house was the smell of mould and cat urine. Although the room was spacious, the bed was not nearly as neatly made as any of the other places we’ve stayed. To be honest, we did not feel comfortable to sleep at St Nicholas Farmhouse.
Needless to say, we were very disappointed and decided not to stay. As it was already 4:30pm, we found ourselves in a real predicament. Fortunately, the guys at Information helped us to get accommodation. Unfortunately finding a place at such short notice came at a price that cut deep into our budget.
I’m glad for all the good comments elsewhere on this site but it was definitely not our experience.

My sister and I spent 5 nights. Although the owners were on holiday, Evelyn took excellent care of all of our needs while we were there. The room was spacious (bedroom, kitchenette with microwave, teapot, and mini-fridge, bathroom, and sun-room with television) which was great for the longer period. The breakfast always always featured fresh berries and was cooked to order. The walk in town was easy either by beach or more directly -- and being out of the busy center was perfect. Freckles the cat was a fast friend, too!
