Description: The first gastropub in the famed Home of Golf, St. Andrews, The One Under is a superb combination of relaxed bar and high quality restaurant. Located just a stones throw from the links and the wave-battered craggy coastline, its the ideal place to warm oneself after a round of golf or a windswept walk. The One Under is chicly appointed in masculine tones of grey and brown, dark woods and tactile textiles with wing backed chairs for sinking in to and low slung sofas to snuggle upon, creating a real lazy Sunday afternoon atmosphere throughout the week. Passionate about delivering quality, The One Under stays true to the gastropub philosophy of simple food done well. The kitchen insists on the best possible produce, locally sourced from Scotlands well-stocked natural larder and delivered fresh, ready to be cooked to order. Classic dishes with a European flavour make up the menu here at The One Under with both large a la carte style dishes and smaller snacks offering flexibility. The bar is stocked with a wide range of wines, beers and spirits and The One Under elects to show selected sporting events including major golfing tournaments on a big screen.

The staff here are really nice, friendly and helpful, despite there being, as far as we could see, only two of them on a fairly busy night. The food was OK. Not great, not "gastro" but edible. Worst thing was that they have limited tables at proper eating height. Many of them are low, somewhere between dining table and coffee table height. We had to take a low one to start, but were able to move eventually. Didn't like the two large screen TVs showing sport. It's not advertised as a sports bar. One, in a corner, would have been sufficient if they feel it's necessary. The staff is definitely the saving grace here.

The restaurant was not busy on the day of our visit. The service was pleasant and our starters pleased all four of us but the fish pie, ordered by two of our party was simply small pieces of fish mixed in with mashed potato - dry and tasteless. It would have been so much better with a sauce. The two of us who had ordered it both left more than half and told the waiter why. No apology was forthcoming nor even the offer of a free cup of coffee. We might not go back, especially as one of the staff vacuumed part of the restaurant while we were still eating and we got the distinct impression that we had lingered too long over our lunch.

This is a lovely Gastro Pub. We have visited on several occasions and the food is very well cooked and portion sizes are more than adequate. Plenty of choice on the menu. The fish and chips is particularly good! The staff are very attentive and quick to take drink orders and clear plates after the meal.
Well worth a visit, we will definately be back.

We were just looking for a nice meal before retiring after drinks in the R Bar at Rusacks. A short trip downstairs to a very cosy nook with a good feel and some of the best food on our trip. We suspect the kitchen is the same one as the award winning Rocca Bar and Grill upstairs.

We recently had dinner here as part of a larger group. I give kudo's to the manager for finding a way to squeeze in our group, as the place was fairly full and all the open tables were suitable only for 2-3 people.

And the atmosphere is nice and casual, very easy place to relax. And no surprise a very golfer vibe to the place.

Service was also good, not great, but what one would expect.

The food was a letdown. Except for the fish and chips, no one else in our party found their meals to be very good. I had the curry, which was really bland and a very small portion. A couple others had burgers and sandwiches which were very average. The most disappointing part is that the burgers/sandwiches came with flimsy American-style french fries, while the fish and chips came with proper looking UK chips. Every other pub I've been to in UK serves real chips with their burgers and sandwiches.

If all you want is a place to unwind with a drink after a day on the links, then this place is A-Ok. But recommend dining elsewhere.
