“best hotel service in st andrews”
Reviewed 19 February 2014

ive been to the rufflets, old course, the fairmont, the dunvegan(the most disgusting place) and the 1 golf place(great food) in st andrews. but in terms of Service, the Rusacks are definitely the best. The old course come close 2nd. People are very helpful here, whilst the dunvegan for e.g. ppl there jsut want money and are racist. Yes very racist. It is the polar opposite for me

Room Tip: take the one facing the 18th of old course!

The Rusacks Hotel has always been a favourite of mine, as it does have the 'good hotel' ambience without being at all formal or stuffy, but this had been our first foray to the Rocca Bar and Grill, of an evening. We visited, courtesy of an Itison voucher, as we always love a decent bargain! With so many places doing offer deals these days, one comes to expect a 'voucher' menu - usually of a lower standard than normal. The Rocca experience is certainly not that! This is a three rosetted restaurant of great style, and smilingly efficient service... and the menu choices were all so tempting that it was difficult to make a selection. (The reasonably priced house Merlot was also of very good quality) The food was exquisitely presented, and absolutely delicious, completely justifying those three rosettes! Thanks to our Itison voucher the bill for the food, per head, amounted to much the same as a couple of lattes and sandwiches from Starbucks, so, incredibly good value!! Of course, we will now happily go back and pay the full price for such splendid fare! The evening was made especially enjoyable by the all-girl team of Sue (The Boss), Shona and new girl Monika, who all managed to combine knowledgeable and unobtrusive service with great fun and friendliness. A very memorable and happy night....thank you all! (We have a Hospitality background ourselves, and can be a tad critical...but only praise due here!) V

We stayed here with friends for the weekend. Our rooms were lovely, lovely big beds and very comfortable. Beautiful bathroom looked like it was newly refurbished. The staff in the hotel are very friendly, courteous and attentive. Breakfast was fantastic with plenty of choice. We ate in the Gastro pub downstairs one nightand all of our meals were so delicious we sent our compliments to the chef. I would like to try the restaurant next time. I would definitely stay here again, in fact we are hoping to visit again in the summer.

Dear guest

Thank you for posting you review on Tripadvisor. Its great to read that you had a wonderful time with us at the Rusacks. The food and service at the Rusacks is what makes us stand out from other quality hotels in the area however it is our staff that make us unique. Everyone from the bottom up has a passion for hospitality making it one of the friendliest hotels I have ever had the pleasure of working in and I am glad you pickup up on that. Thank you again for your kind comments and hopefully I will see you back in the summer.

Kind regards

Third visit to this hotel and still enjoy our stay. USP in my opinion is the staff...all excellent and very friendly. First time we have had a room on a higher floor and was nice to get a wee bit of a view, maybe on our return visit we might be lucky and get a golf course view. Ate in the One Under and enjoyed a lovely meal. Breakfast was excellent and we were lucky to be given a window table each morning....just lovely. Would probably have given an excellent but felt our room was a bit tired and needed a lick of paint and had to fight to get the plug in the sink to work.
Would also be great if the room had a fridge. However, I believe the rooms are being refurbished so this will obviously improve.
.

Room Tip: I believe that the rooms are currently being refurbished so perhaps ask for one as our room was fine...

Thank you for posting you review on Tripadvisor. Its fantastic to see so many great comments about our staff as they are the life blood of the hotel. You should try a room of the golf course side next time you are with us as the views are simply stunning. Most of our rooms were refurbished in 2013 however we are expecting more rooms to be done this year bringing all the rooms up to a extremely high standard. Thank you again for you kind words and I look forward to welcoming you back in the future.
Kind regards

This was my first stay at the Rusacks and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The hotel was clean, comfortable and plush, but without the snooty feel that other hotels tend to have. The views from the hotel are fantastic, overlooking the old course right down to the sea. Although it was very cold outside we were able to enjoy the views from the comfortable and warm bar.

Our room was spacious and clean, with a view of the 18th fairway. The only problem was that our room was far too warm, but with both the bedroom and bathroom windows open it was fine. We had breakfast both mornings of our stay and it was delicious. The full Scottish breakfast was good but the kitchen was also able to cater to our needs even though our requests weren't on the menu. The food we had in the bar and in the gastro pub downstairs was also of excellent quality.

The one thing that really stood out in this hotel though was the staff. They were fantastic - friendly and helpful but not overbearing. One of our party is in a wheelchair and the staff went out their way to help make the hotel as accessible as possible. Being an old buidling it isn't naturally wheelchair friendly but the staff were always on hand to help with any difficulties, including moving our car into the disabled space once the inconsiderate non disabled driver finally moved theirs out of it.

Overall a lovely hotel with excellent staff. Well worth visiting.

Dear guest

Thank you for posting you review on Tripadvisor. It makes me very proud to read so many comments about our staff at the Macdonald Rusacks hotel. Many other hotels in the area also have a very good level of service however it has been described as soulless! We on the other hand have merged the efficiency and level of service you would expect from a 5 star hotel with the friendliness and hospitality that you would find when inviting someone in to your own home which has been commented on so many times on TripAdvisor. Our food in the One and in The Rocca Grill is out of this world. Our award winning chefs take great pride in every dish that leaves their kitchen. Thank you again for taking the time to post your review on tripadvisor. Hopefully Ill have the opportunity to welcoming you back in the future.
Kind regards

I stayed at this hotel at the beginning of January 2014, in room 424, No heat, loud street noise which prevents you from having a sound sleep, faulty fire alarms went off several tines throughout the night, hair in scambled eggs at breakfast, which came to our room 1 hour late and cold. Awful. Stay anywhere else.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else.

My wife and I enjoyed two days here at the Rusacks, which is our second stay at the hotel. It exudes class and is wonderfully situated right next to the 18th fairway and green of the Old Course, which is magical, if like me, you love your golf. Our only reservations were about the extra we had to pay for kippers at breakfast and additional also for lattes. Do they really need to do that?
