My husband and I have had lunch here quite a few times and have always found the food and service to be first class. As a treat. we had an overnight stay, including dinner, and we were not disappointed! Our room was lovely, the only down side (and it was very minor!) being that the view from the main window was overlooking a large flat roof. However, there was a small balcony (with table and chairs) overlooking the gardens which made up for that. Had it not been cold, we would have enjoyed sitting outside! The room itself was well furnished and the huge bathroom had a whirlpool bath and separate shower. After an pre dinner drink in the bar, we enjoyed a superb dinner in the elegant dining room. Breakfast was cooked to order and was of the same high standard. After a walk in the beautiful grounds, we left, promising ourselves another stay very soon.
Rufflets has a very welcoming feel, very high standards of food and service and elegant accommodation. Iwould have no hesitation is recommending it.And I mustn't forget the homemade shortbread in the room - delicious!

Thank you for the feedback. We are really glad that you enjoyed your overnight stay so much. We have a new chef and we have been receiving many positive comments about the quality of food and service. The owners recently stayed at the hotel in the same room, and we have a plan to develop some wild shrubs on the flat portion of the roof to make more of the balcony.

We would normally stay at another hotel in St. Andrews for a weekend breakaway, but The Rufflets had a special offer on which looked very appealing. Oh were we right?!
Although not in the centre of St. Andrews (well it is a country house?) it is well worth a visit. I would describe the building and initial interior as traditional, but our room was contemporary. All very clean, very calm and relaxing.
The food was outstanding, with service to match. Faultless.
A great draw for this hotel are it's finishing touches. They employ a 'turn-down' service whereby the corners of the bedding is turned down, the complimentary bottled water is replaced and there's a wee teddy bear placed on the bed. Ahh. Also there is a small tin of home made shortbread alongside the tea and coffee. This is not only 'to die for' but also replenished with everything else.
Each member of staff we met was very polite, efficient and helpful.
I have nothing negative to say about this hotel experience. We will be using this as our St. Andrews breakaway from now on.

So glad that you managed to find us - and more so that you had such a great experience at the hotel, and thank you for the comments (the staff do read these and they love it when they see how well their hard work has been received).

We will be carrying out some refurbishment works to the front hall and reception areas in the new year, and whilst making it slightly more contemporary, will keep the calm and relaxing feel to it all.

Do let me know when you are looking to book your next visit - and I hope that it will be soon.

Have a great Christmas,

We stayed for one night, dinner, bed and breakfast. Our room on the first floor was immaculate, with warm colours and every detail thought of, from tea/coffee tray with shortbread to the teddy on the bed and magazines to read. Large spotless bathroom with roll top bath and walk-in shower, lots of towels and 2 bathrobes. One of the best features for me was no surrounding noise from other rooms, very peaceful.

Dinner in the restaurant was amazing. The choices on the menu were all unusual and catered for everyone, with vegetarian and fish options. The desserts were to die for!! The waitresses were polite and attentive. We had coffee by the fireplace in the lounge after dinner. Extensive breakfast menu too.

Would love to stay at this hotel again and would recommend it to anyone, particularly to couples who want to get away from it all.

Had a wonderful weekend at Rufflets Country House. The room was immaculate, the staff attentive, the food was excellent - the only downside, was that our time spent there, went so quickly! We will definitely be returning guests. Thank You for a very pleasant break.

Stayed overnight for D,B & B with wife & friends. 4 star accomodation but flawed. Check in great, staff great. Accomodation fine, clean, spacious & comfy. So why the average comment? Well, for a four star I don't expect flimsy shelf unit in bathroom, small shower cubicle in large bathroom & cobweb free windows. OK, maybe I am being picky but standards are standards. Bar prices might have been an issue if we knew what they were beforehand. Sections of drink were listed but with only a from price. Makes it awkward when asking for malts. I assume that they don't think if you can afford to stay then you can afford most drinks with no questions asked. Restaurant - staff friendly, quick, attentive but again, back to the four star thing, they lack the silver service essentials for a four star extablishment. Ladies not served first, stretching over diners to pick up plates etc & incorrect removal of cutlery, never lift from plate over diner. Food generally satisfactory with one unsatisfied diner complaining that her Lemon Sole was a bit tasteless. I found mine acceptable but along with the rest of the diners, found the portions a bit on the small side. However, after three courses we all felt sated & generally satisfied with our dinner. Rooms - as above plus no complaints regarding good nights sleep. Rufus the bear a neat idea - instead of a do not disturb sign, Rufus left outside will guard your room from unsuspecting cleaning staff etc. Breakfast - no quibbles. Check out - no problems but worth prices? Not sure, may have to return.

As with some reviews of our hotel, there are some negative points, as well as some very positive ones that have been mentioned here, but we are grateful to receive such feedback, as it is an excellent tool to gauge how well we are doing.

On the issue of the housekeeping and bedrooms, we are going to be closing for 2 weeks in early January 2012 to carry out refurbishments to some public areas as well as bedrooms and bathrooms. The owners of Rufflets are committed to ensuring that issues such as smaller showers etc are rectified quickly.

With regards the pricing for drinks, we do have some promotional materials that do state a 'from' price, but we also have full pricing of drinks displayed at the bar. In fact, we have a full whisky menu (circa 100 different options) that has each one priced.

But thank you for the feedback - and we might have the chance to welcome you back in the future so that you can see that we do listen.

Booked a "Twighlight deal" with the hotel direct and had a fantastic stay at Rufflets.

The room was spacious and clean with a toilet containing a roll top bath and seperate power shower. THis was the second time at the Hotel and it hasnt dropped in standards. There was some delicious Shortbread on offer in the room along with the usual tea and coffee.

We had an evening meal in the restaurant and didnt experience any light issues like a previous reviewer. The wine list was extensive and the food on offer was fantastic.

One small gripe was that they charged extra if you wanted a cheese board for your third course, when this came, the cheese was a dissapointment in that most of it was hard and looked like it had been cut mostly from the rind. Apart from that, you could not fault the food.

The bar was surprisingly cheap and the breakfast in the morning was of an excellent standard.

The staff throughout were excellent, very courteous and tried to do as much for you as they could.

My boyfriend booked Rufflets as a surprise night away for me. We were shown to our room on the top floor which was just lovely. It felt luxurious with lovely decor and little touches such as the bathroom toiletries and home-made shortbread. We really enjoyed relaxing in the Music Bar, which has a homely yet opulant feel to it. They have an excellent whisky and wine selection, so we sampled a few and relaxed before dinner.

Dinner was in the dining room which is a tiny bit too quiet and hushed for my comfort but the excellent standard of the food and lovely service put us at ease and we enjoyed everything immensely. It was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in!

A lovely place to go for a special occasion - we will be back.
