“Weekend break”
Reviewed 22 November 2013

Had a great weekend at Rufflets and staff very helpful and pleasant. Food is really good with a changing menu in the evening. They also catered for my diet as I am coeliac and it is great that I could be accommodation at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Sometimes this is a real problem at other hotels as fellow coeliacs will know!
Would recommend it.

Room Tip: Try and get a double room as the standard twin is single beds and not as comfortable. Some better ro...

Dear Margaret

Delighted to see how much you enjoyed the weekend stay at Rufflets.

On the menu front, we do have a wonderful daily changing dinner menu, which we know our guests enjoy, and we also take gresat efforts to cater for any particular diets that may be required, whilst ensuring that the quality remains the same.

Regards

Stephen Owen

Enjoyed the cosy atmosphere of the hotel. We liked the comfortable room which was a good size and had bright modern decor. The shortbread with the tea-making facilities was a nice touch. The food was excellent and served in a pleasant and efficient manner.

Room Tip: Third floor had pleasant view.

I suppose that at this time of year, when the weather is colder, and the days shorter, having that 'cosy' retreat is important, and we were glad to see that you enjoyed the stay at Rufflets.

Whilst there is much to do and see out and about in the area, we do know that being able to come back to the hotel for tea or drinks in front of one of the 3 fire places is a treat.

Many thanks for the feedback - and we hope you will make it back soon.

Regards

Stephen

This was our third stay in the last year, this time we had a two night Twilight Break in the Gilroy Suite. The break included dinner, bed and breakfast and the whole stay was excellent. It is a very relaxing hotel which does things correctly. The suite was very comfortable with a separate seating area, we found this to be perfect for relaxing in front of the gas fire after coming back from a day out sightseeing. We never rush to leave as we always enjoy ourselves.

Thank you for the very kind feedback - and I was pleased to read that we are achieving the high standards - and consistently so - which is what we all aim to do.

The Gilroy Suite is a wonderful room - with fabulous views over the formal gardens - and in fact this is one of the rooms that will be part of the refurbishment programme that we are doing in January - so you will need to come back and see what we have done with it in the New Year!

We do send out newsletter to those people on our mailing list with notification of some great offers from time to time - and will let you know when these become available next.

With my best regards,

Stephen

After a trip of some forty hours from Maleny,Queensland, via Hong Kong, London and Edinburgh, Rufflets Country House Hotel came to the rescue of two very, very tired Australians. Almost at the point of giving in and accepting ANY accommodation at all, we happened upon this establishment and how grateful we were to be welcomed by the friendly staff - and even better, provided with a lovely room. Nothing was a problem, the room would be made available as quickly as possible (we arrived rather early in the morning so obviously someone in housekeeping kindly got their skates on and serviced the room very quickly indeed) and in the meantime was there anything they could do to assist us? Simply knowing that we had somewhere to lay weary heads was enough. We took up the suggestion of a coffee and something to eat at a nearby Farm shop and returned shortly afterwards to find our room ready for occupancy. We were given a brief tour of the hotel to familiarise ourselves with the layout - a nice touch indeed. Quiet, comfortable, furnished in a cosy country house style, but with the inestimable benefit of modern plumbing and plenty of hot water, we could not have wished for more. After availing ourselves of said bathroom facilities we fell into the exceptionally comfortable bed and slept - for 12 hours. Breakfast the following day was good; we were provided with lots of information about local sights and sites and given a map of St Andrews itself - along with handy tips for parking. I couldn't speak more highly of the staff members we encountered at Rufflets; from the Manager through to dining staff, all were friendly, helpful and really made us feel that our well being and comfort was important to them. During the following two weeks we stayed at many pleasant places (B&B's as well as hotels of differing styles) but Rufflets remains top of the list for all the reasons stated. Well done to everyone there - and if we're fortunate enough to make a return visit we'll stay again. Thank you.

Room Tip: I would imagine that each room has something to offer a visitor but the one we were given looked out...

Many thanks for taking the time to leave us your feedback - we are all very pleased to read how much you enjoyed the experience at Rufflets.

I do remember you arriving somewhat tired from all the travels - and to hear that we have been able to help and restore the energy levels for the rest of the trip is reassuring.

At Rufflets, we do work hard to provide a 'port in the storm', and we are delighted that this is what you found.

Hope to see you at some point in the future - there is so much to see and do in our beautiful Kingdom of Fife!

Regards

Stephen

Drove past this hotel earlier in the year and decided to stay over based on what we saw from the road and the website we checked out. A beautiful location and building. Rooms modernised to a high standard with quirky but elegant decor. Room 34 was described as a standard twin and it was a large size, located in the eaves with a wonderful bathroom. Particular note to the quirky 'Do Not Disturb' theme - instead of a card to be left on the door handle, we had to put 'Rufus the bear' outside if we did not want to be disturbed - a lovely touch (and you could even buy your own Rufus to take home with you!). Also loved the home-made shorbread and suggested that the hotel organise a shortbread-making course so that we can all perfect the recipe! Dinner in the evening was delicious - special note to the pigeon starter and sticky toffee pud desert. And breakfast the next morning was eqally good, with a fine selection on the buffet table as well as cooked options. Special note to all the staff all of whom were exceptionally friendly and helpful, they really made the stay that little bit more special. Will not hesitate to return very soon!

Arrived with my partner for a Sunday-Tuesday trip away...
From the minute you arrive, the service from reception was fantastic. Mini tour of the main common areas by helpful receptionist who then guided us to our Superior Room, which was simply heaven on earth. A large room with massive bed, separate seating area housed in the turret space, and equally large bathroom with walk-in shower and bath perfect for long luxurious soaks with the complimentary molton brown products. My partner was instantly impresses with the Roberts DAB I-pod docking station which was touch-screen and apparently had all the whistles and bells, which really sums up the quality finish and extra touches that help Rufflets achieve such an all round standard.
We had purchased the time away as part of a deal and had upgraded the room to superior, but by the looks of it the classic rooms, look lovely and cosy too. Dinner bed and breakfast were included as part of the deal. Table d'hote menu changes daily and will absolutely rival tasting menus we've experienced in other hotels. 5 choices per course and the standard of food and presentation was excellent, as was the waiting service which was non-intrusive, helpful and added to the whole dining experience.
Fairly mixed crowd of guests, but the hotel never felt full and there were plenty of places to sit and have a drink by the fire without feeling intruded upon.
Location wise, it's just outside St Andrews and within 5-10 minutes you're in the town centre. For us, we'd probably like there to be more in the way of grounds adjacent to the hotel, as we'd walked the grounds within 20 mins, however that's our failing over the hotel's as we do like long gentle walks, but this is remedied by taking the car to one of st Andrew's beaches or further along the Fife coastal trails.
Will absolutely be returning as soon as possible and recommending to all!

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your feedback on Tripadvisor, and we are all pleased to read how much you enjoyed the stay.

The Superior Room that you had, whilst it does cost a little bit more, does offer some enhanced touches, and is we feel, worth the extra money, and it is clear that you found this to be true.

Hopefully we will be able to welcome you back to the hotel sometime soon - and if you need some extra tips as to where to find out more about the wondeful walks that are available in the area do let me know.

With my best regards,

Stephen

Stayed for the weekend celebrating my wifes birthday. On arrival reception staff couldn't have been more helpful and courteous.
There was a birthday card for my wife from the staff wishing us a nice stay which was a nice touch.
We were booked into a standard suite which they upgraded and room was fabulous with a bed you could slept six in.
At dinner on both nights we were there Angela the restaurant manager was a credit to the hotel.
She was fantastic went through the wine list with us with enthusiasm and on both nights we dined
she helped us choose some great wines which I probably wouldn't have tried otherwise.
On my wifes birthday we got 2 glasses of bubbly on the house which was a nice gesture.
Chloe who served us on both nights we dined and on our last day at breakfast was also very pleasant, friendly and gave us great service. She took time out to chat with us and made us feel at home.
I would not hesitate to return to this establishment.
The only negative I would give is the room we were in the wood work could do with a fresh coat of gloss and ceiling above shower also needs slight repair work.
Furnishings, bed,TV etc fab and my wife loved how the bed was turned down at night and your room had its little teddy rufus who would have a little message in his paws re breakfast times etc and he would be in the bed when you returned at night to greet you.
