“Lovely but not worth the money”
Reviewed 23 November 2013

Stayed there for my girlfriends birthday and got it on a deal. Just as well as we couldn't have justified paying between £260-£300 for this stay. Lovely hotel and staff, food was amongst the best I've tasted but our room could have done with a makeover. It was dated and run down. The bed was enormous and very comfortable and room was big enough. In all, if I was paying this sort of money there are loads of nicer places for that value.

Thank you for the feedback, and whilst we are pleased to note that you found the hotel, the staff and the food learly so very good, we are disappointed to hear that you feel it would not be worth the money at the normal prices.

We are going to be starting our annual refurbishment programme in January, and part of this will include some major spend on some of the bedrooms, which, once done, would make it better value.

Glad that you were able to enjoy the special offer though.

Regards

Stephen

Had a great stay. Our room was lovely and warm which was very welcoming on a cold winters day. Evening turn down service is a nice touch. Very comfortable bed. The crackling fire in the lobby was lovely to sit next to and enjoy a gin and tonic. To top it off the food was fantastic both dinner and breakfast. Would love to go back.

Warmth, comfort, great food and excellent service is what we look to provide, and it is pleasing to read that we continue to do this - and very pleased to read your comments.

With 3 open fires, there are lots of places to sit and enjoy that gin and tonic, or whatever the preferred tipple is (and we have lots to choose from!).

Hope you do manage to find the chance to come back soon.

Stephen

We stayed at Rufflets for two nights to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary. We were welcomed very warmly by all staff we met. The hotel has been refurbished since we last stayed a couple of years ago and it is beautiful. The food was excellent - we understand that the main chef was off on our second evening however the standard of food was maintained. Choice of menu was fantastic including the breakfast menu! Our room was beautiful with a lovely seating area and a door out to a little balcony - I think it was one of the turret rooms. All the staff were great especially Angela which made our stay special.

Dear Mary

Glad to hear that you had both enjoyed the stay for your Silver Anniversary, and it is always a treat for us to be able to welcome returning guests (something that we do often).

I do hope that it wont be another couple of years before you come back again - we are going to be doing another range of refurbs to some bedrooms in the new year which you can come and check out.

Stephen

Perfect for a romantic break. Very luxurious but affordable. Good size room, beautiful grounds, great food & lovely bar with real ale. We loved the fact thar your bed is turned down in the evening. Breakfast is especially brilliant. All the staff are helpful & friendly. Highly recommended, will return!

Had a great weekend at Rufflets and staff very helpful and pleasant. Food is really good with a changing menu in the evening. They also catered for my diet as I am coeliac and it is great that I could be accommodation at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Sometimes this is a real problem at other hotels as fellow coeliacs will know!
Would recommend it.

Room Tip: Try and get a double room as the standard twin is single beds and not as comfortable. Some better ro...

Dear Margaret

Delighted to see how much you enjoyed the weekend stay at Rufflets.

On the menu front, we do have a wonderful daily changing dinner menu, which we know our guests enjoy, and we also take gresat efforts to cater for any particular diets that may be required, whilst ensuring that the quality remains the same.

Enjoyed the cosy atmosphere of the hotel. We liked the comfortable room which was a good size and had bright modern decor. The shortbread with the tea-making facilities was a nice touch. The food was excellent and served in a pleasant and efficient manner.

Room Tip: Third floor had pleasant view.

I suppose that at this time of year, when the weather is colder, and the days shorter, having that 'cosy' retreat is important, and we were glad to see that you enjoyed the stay at Rufflets.

Whilst there is much to do and see out and about in the area, we do know that being able to come back to the hotel for tea or drinks in front of one of the 3 fire places is a treat.

Many thanks for the feedback - and we hope you will make it back soon.

Stephen

This was our third stay in the last year, this time we had a two night Twilight Break in the Gilroy Suite. The break included dinner, bed and breakfast and the whole stay was excellent. It is a very relaxing hotel which does things correctly. The suite was very comfortable with a separate seating area, we found this to be perfect for relaxing in front of the gas fire after coming back from a day out sightseeing. We never rush to leave as we always enjoy ourselves.

Thank you for the very kind feedback - and I was pleased to read that we are achieving the high standards - and consistently so - which is what we all aim to do.

The Gilroy Suite is a wonderful room - with fabulous views over the formal gardens - and in fact this is one of the rooms that will be part of the refurbishment programme that we are doing in January - so you will need to come back and see what we have done with it in the New Year!

We do send out newsletter to those people on our mailing list with notification of some great offers from time to time - and will let you know when these become available next.

With my best regards,

Stephen
